Re: Chiang Khan
on your way make sure you stop and check out the "glass walkway" overlook of the Mekong if you haven't already done so...It is just east of Sangkom here at Wat Pha Tak Suea https://www.google.com/maps/@18.0381879 ... a=!3m1!1e3
We did a 1 1/2 day trip to Chiang Khan. Plenty of good Guest Houses along the river road and a great river pedestrian walk.. In the evening the whole river street is a "walking street." You can rent a bike or just hoof it... Lots of gew gaws to buy and plenty of different style restaurants to eat at..

Went two weeks ago for three nights. Stayed in Mountain River Resort. Nice place with beautiful gardens. A bit on the expensive side and the breakfast was horrible. Rooms ok. It's also about 5 min drive to Walking Street which is alive on the weekends, not so much during the weekday.
If you like Nong Khai's Saturday shuffle shopping on the Boardwalk, you'll love Chiang Khan's Walking St. There are a few stunning temples up on the mountains looking across the river. Follow signs to the silver buffalo.

I've gone many times. Prefer lodging with view of the river. Always a great time. Good food everywhere.
Enjoy!

Went to Chiang Khan for a few days and visited the "new" skywalk nearby. Having been to the other one half way to Loei I was prepared to be a little underwhelmed.
In fact it was remarkable with stunning views over the Mekong. Well worth a visit.

Re: Chiang Khan
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel (sorry but the English version doesn't appear to be working).
