slow train to Udon

trying to arrange train travel from Bangkok to Udon in April. Udonmap has one train leaving at 06:15 arriving 16:42. next train leaving 08:55 arriving 16:28. is there something wrong with this picture. i know one is express but is this right? does anyone have up to date schedule of trains to Udon and how do i secure ticket on internet without added fees. i also tried Nok web site and only got so far until "page not available" . would like to secure transport before arriving.maybe a pipe dream. thanks for any info. Richie
