I agree. Perhaps designated areas as well for passenger drop off or pick up and for short term and long term parking.

Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Last time I parked there were 2 dedicated zones for 1 hour parking at the Arrivals end. Full time staff to have cars towed away breaking the limits. Great, ample spare bays. I still can't figure why the airport parking is so packed - surely can't all be airport customers.Shado wrote:I agree. Sent from my 1977 Apple II using 2 Heinz bake bean cans and piano wire!

Yes, we've used the 1 hour parking zone the last few of times we went to pick someone up or drop them off at the airport. That is at least a start in solving the parking problems there.

Since the airport is on military land, can the AoT charge for parking?
I agree someone is missing out on a great way of generating money. Something needs to be done to alleviate the parking situation at the airport asap.

probably various influential elements arguing over the splits on parking profits.... they'll sort it out after a while.

Correct as its only available on a lease, so any private enterprise company buying in, could still have their investment pulled by the Junta etcFrazeeDK wrote:probably various influential elements arguing over the splits on parking profits.... they'll sort it out after a while.

Yes,we were at the airport a week or so ago and noticed the vehicles parked on the grass.
Good for a short term solution but what happens in the rainy season ?

Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

laying down concrete or asphalt would be relatively easy although expensive these days.. Then charge for the parking..

Then the Thais will find another very pragmatic solution.Zidane wrote:Good for a short term solution but what happens in the rainy season ?
E.g. only the driver will go without shoes to pick up the car while the others and the luggage will wait on the street.
Or: Give the keys to an Australian.
Living in Thailand means to know how to improvise.

I saw this photo on a Thai website today.....parking fees at Udon Airport
first 25 minutes are free.
first 25 minutes are free.
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
The fees do not not look outrageous to me if they are controlled properly.
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I agree with you Macca. I have been to the airport twice in the last few days.macca46 wrote:The fees do not not look outrageous to me if they are controlled properly.
They are now in the process of providing sheltered cover for cars with sunshades.
This is in the areas closed off at the moment.
If they can provide controlled parking (ie not getting blocked in by some arsehole leaving his handbrake on) it would be good.
There again some Thai people will not pay for parking so that would ease the problem even more.
They would park their cars on the road outside the airport like which they have started to do now if they only are staying 24 hrs.

There is an office where the sign is displayed.
It is where the coffee shop was at the end of the car park.
They also are using the office area to store all the barriers etc. & which looks like they will installed at each bay.
Two bays have had weather shades installed so it looks like when you enter the car park you will get a ticket with the time & date on it.
The new International terminal is now open & Lion Air flights operate from there.
You have to check in for domestic Lion Air flights there.
They have luggage scanners & what looks like a nice lounge area.
Maybe they will start International flights as all the facilities have been put in place.

I can.see the airport based limo taxis raising their prices to accomadate the parking fees.
Unless PTT have a corporate /monthly / yearly rate for them.
Would love to see the private sector allowed to wheel clamp at the airport also.
PTT with 50 wheel clamps would make a.killing.
Only issue with wheel clamping is the cars that were blocked then become permanently blocked till the fine is paid and vehicle released.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
For double parked vehicles tow or lift away to a compound - can then charge for more to release
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left
