Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Aren't their two parking, one day and one for long stay??
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Use 'Grab Taxi' for both the airport run and back home on your return - cheap and very good
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I finally managed to get a Grab account set up on my smartphone while waiting for weather at Don Meuang yesterday. AirAsia was late (again) but I used it on arrival at UTH and got a ride home for 80 baht, took him about 15 minutes to get to me. I tipped well and still beat the typical airport out-of-city rates. Nice, new, clean SUV and good driver.
The driver was telling me that there's only 4 Grab operators in Udon so it is possible that on a busy or wet night, one could be left waiting a bit longer? Maybe OK during the day but could be a bugger after a delayed flight in the rain and the airport taxi's have all buggered off.
Noted the police breath-test checkpoint between the airport and the Kut Chap traffic lights (between TAP & Chris's for bar-hopper GPS), both sides of ring road still operating at 11 PM on a Tuesday night. My taxi guy had to blow both ways. These guys look serious.

Good feedback.
Ive used approx 15 different drivers and vehicles so far. So not sure where the number 4 originates from.

It's what 'Nat', last night's driver said.
Maybe he meant only 4 drivers working late last night? I guess that's that this bloody spoken Thai (a language without context unless it's written) issue again.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
My smartphone is rubbish right now; slow with a poor battery and the Grab app seems to hog resources so I almost gave up (again).
I think I did get a screen showing possibly 3 cars before it blacked out, locked up and needed a reboot so that's probably what Nat meant. I didn't want to bugger about when the app loaded again so just nailed the first one it presented. It's a pity airlines can't keep on schedule. Maybe next time I will book it for 75 minutes from when I am boarding in Bangkok but not sure if loading drop-off address is enabled without GPS or how slow the app gets or even if it works with GPS turned off? Can you save pick-up and drop-off locations?

Just used Grab. Home to airport. 50 baht. Airport taxi is 200.
Arrived in 3 min. Helped load 2 bags in the car. Dropped off outside Thai Smile terminal. Got a trolley for me amd unloaded the lot.
Couldnt fault him.
Gave him 100. Went to give change.. mai pen rai krup.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I'm loving grab. Used one to take me to pick up a load of stuff then drop it off. Fraction of the cost of a taxi or Samlor. Not had a bad car yet and several of the drivers I've had have spoken very good english.
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
o.k how can you use this " Grab " company ? is it a phone app , or can you just call them and do they speak English ?wazza wrote: ↑October 7, 2017, 11:23 amJust used Grab. Home to airport. 50 baht. Airport taxi is 200.

Best thing is you use the map to show your pick up place and destination so even if the drivers speaks zero English he just follows his map.
Highly recommended .

Go to google playstore
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I parked there this morning for a flight to BKK at 12:10. All barriers open, no charges
I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani
