Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
In retrospect, a silly question on my part. But my memory went right back to the very old, completely demolished? terminal, where Immigration 'lived' for a while, which was separated by 100? metres from that used now and you had to walk outside. Although I didn't get out of the car and my eyes were mainly on the road today, it seemed the newer additions might be termed an extension and you can walk through the complete length i.e. dropping off at any entrance doesn't cause an inconvenience.Brian Davis wrote:Relevant to parking, or just dropping off/picking up quickly. - Nok Air still using old terminal? Lion Air - new terminal? Air Asia and Thai Smile?????? Thanks.
Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Brian,
Check in for Nok Air and Thai Smile is the same as ever but for Lion Air and Air Asia its at the new style "old terminal."
You can drop off at the normal place and then go inside, bear right and walk about 100 metres or so for the new Lion Air/Air Asia check ins.
Pick up area from flights is the same as it always was.

Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Thanks, Zidane.
That's really what I meant, but you explained it better! Initially, I had it in my head that for, as you say. Lion Air and Air Asia, you'd have to go further to a still separate building.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
past the new terminal it appears a huge new parking lot is being constructed.. The entire areas been dug down half a meter or more to prepare it..
On the new terminal. when you enter it, walking from the old terminal watch out for the single step down about 20-30 meters inside the new terminal...

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Just got dropped off at the airport. First 3 lanes are now dedicated to short term parking. First 25 minutes free then 20 baht for next hour etc.
Brilliant and about time.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
Just returned from parking at Udon Airport for less than 72 hours. Was charged 4-days @ 200 baht each. Although was there less than 3 days total, once you go over 24 hours you're billed by the # of calendar days there. This wasn't human calculated, price to pay came up automatic when scanning my parking card and was displayed on receipt. This was for a spot not even close, but rather around in the back lot. Prices were same for each lot, just the ones closer were filled.

The warning sign says (in effect): additional parking area prone to flooding during the rainy season. Park at your own risk. Airport authorities not responsible for damage.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I was wondering about that myself. Seems a bit steep to pour a few stories of concrete. Might be time to start a construction company....

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
When they started on the new parking area they excavated the whole area at least 15 meter deep.
They then filled it in again & finally added about 3-400 mm of concrete.
Originally I thought it would be a multi story car park but it looks as it will only be a concreted area like the other one.
Can any civil engineering guys out there can say why they would excavate down that far then fill it in again.

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
I just returned from a day trip to Bangkok..........sure enough, to the right of the new terminal (as you're facing it), there's a new parking ramp already poured. So, looks like parking for aircraft and parking for cars.
Off topic.....I flew Nok Air, showed my pink ID to check in both here and Bangkok and showed pink ID at security both locations. No questions.
Don Muang airport is quite the busy place these days!

Re: Parking at Udon Thani Airport
On my day trip to Bangkok......when I arrived at the airport, it was raining quite hard. I decided parking free in the swamp wasn't going to work. I parked in the pay lot....200 baht for the day. When you think about it, 200 baht really isn't bad......lots more parking spots available now that people have to pay. 200 Baht would get you about an hour or two, max, in any stateside parking lot.
