where to stay for 2 or 3 day visit

Post by joet » November 16, 2017, 9:33 am

I will be moving from Chiang Mai to Udon within the next 2 or 3 months and plan to fly up there in a couple of weeks and spend 2 or 3 days to check out houses. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay that I could also be able to meet other expats and have a chat and a beer or two?

Thanks
Joe

I suggest you stay on Soi Samphan, bar street farang hangout. Nearby hotels include: Pannarai Hotel, The Old Inn, Kavin Buri Hotel, @Home and Centara Hotel.

Hi Joe

If you are renting a car, then there is a great little new Hotel, UDTel, about 1kms out from the Udon Thani Ring Road on the main road heading to Khon Kaen. Its around TB 700 per night with a breakfast and rooms are excellent. No Mosies & no Cockroaches. It also has a great Pool

Its easy enough to drive the 3 kms back into into the Soi Sampan or Rom Yen, areas, to meet the expats having a meal and or a drink. =D>

Suggest you pop into The T Bar (Steve's) and have a meal/drink or go just down the road 100m into Benchwarmer's Sports Bar (sorry to the Owner, but I forget your name) for a meal/drink. Both are great for their food and drinks and both are extremely sociable places to meet Expats from all walks, coming and going.

PS: Neither one is my establishment, I just pop into them from time to time \:D/ \:D/

Regards

We usually stay in the Pannarai on Soi Sampan which is nice. The last time, The Boy decided he wanted his own hotel  so I booked him a room in @Home which is just a bit further up the street. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was there

I'm used to fighting 'em off with a sh!tty stick when they see my bloated, aged frame wobbling over the horizon. I suspect they see me as a prime candidate for a heart attack so a late amendment to my Will is pursued

I'm sure as a Thai resident, Joe is quite aware of what to expect from Bar areas etc etc in Thailand.

As it happens, i have visited Sampan about once a week for several years and In the last year have seen 1 x fight? (some guy wanting to fight and everyone else telling him to go home) about 3 or 4 "drunks" (including previous fighting guy), prostitution (ehm, isn't that what they are there for?) and balloon chasing penny pinching perverts (as opposed to? flashy OTT farang making a fool of themselves by trying to be the big "I am" in front of Hiso Thais in posh restaurants?)

Any views on the hotel opposite the entrance to Nutty Park, - I don't know its name? The one slightly setback with a few car parking spaces in front?

I used to stay at "The One", but fancy a change.

I always stay at Kavin burri.
Its dead center of Udon ..shops bars and food..all in 1 minute walk.
Small rooms but clean and newer then other hotels..
Dont book breakfast..get it across the road for cheaper and better.
Has a good pool and bar on the roof.
Panari is a good hotel.
Big rooms ..but its in bar street and can be noisy.

Is that the hotel more or less opposite the entrance to Nutty Park? I don't know its name.

Maybe... :D
There is a hotel directly opposite Nutty Park that I think is called UD Residence that is about 650 a night.
The Kavinburi is about 60 meters away closer towards the Plaza & is about 950 a night - but far better facilities..

Thanks Bob. The one I remember had a car park (sideways on, so to speak), out the front. In fact I think the hotel itself was sideways on to the main road.

It isn't.
It is exactly as I said in my post. The hotel directly opposite Nutty Park is not The Kavinburi.

I said its pretty much.....
its across the road and 10 steps to the right.
To help you the hotel across the road is Ud residence its next door.
We are talking 10 to 20 meters..
