i must be bored, and i have so much to do, oh well.

War...huh...yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Uh ha haa ha
War...huh...yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutley nothing...say it again y'all
War..huh...look out...
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...listen to me ohhhhh

WAR! I despise,
'cos it means destruction of innocent lives,
War means tears to thousands of mother's eyes,
When their sons gone to fight and lose their lives.

I said WAR!...huh...good God y'all,
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...say it again
War! Huh...What is it good for (Edwin sings 'Wohh oh Lord' over the top)
Absolutely nothing...listen to me

WAR! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,
War. Friend only to the undertaker.
Ohhh! War is an enemy to all mankind,
The thought of war blows my mind.
War has caused unrest within the younger generation
Induction then destruction...who wants to die? Ohhh

WAR! good God y'all huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...say it say it SAY IT!
WAR!...uh huh yeah hu!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...listen to me

WAR! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,
War! It's got one friend that's the undertaker.
Ohhhh! War has shattered many a young man's dream,
Made him disabled, bitter and mean,
Life is much too short and precious to spend fighting wars these days.
War can't give life, it can only take it away!

Ohhh WAR! huh...good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...say it again
War!...huh...woh oh oh Lord
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing...listen to me

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,
War. Friend only to the undertaker...woo
Peace lovin' understand then tell me,
Is there no place for them today?
They say we must fight to keep our freedom,
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way.

Ohhhhhhh WAR! huh...good God y'all...
What is it good for?...you tell me!
Say it say it say it saaaay it!
War! good God now...huh
What is it good for?
Stand up and shout it...NOTHING

The US military certainly made their presence felt in Udon during Cobra Gold. Apart from the financial spin off to the local accomodation houses, some bars and some of the ladies there was not too much to say in favour of them being here.

Ignorant, bombastic, arrogrant, foulmouthed and all round arseholes.

They were like the plague, very hard to find somewhere that was not infected.

I was a serviceman in the 60's and 70's and if I had behaved like that my mates would have pulled me into line very quickly.

A good time to go home on R&R next time they are due in.

Wow !!!!
Kind of makes my previous post somewhat insignificant !

But it exposes the fact that my opinions appear to be shared.

When I was in the military I was constantly told that when in another country we are ambassadors for our own country and people will judge our country on what they see of us.

I previously said I would keep my head down on this post as I thought it would be a bit controversial, but thought I might add my experience of meeting the US Military when I was visiting Udon end of April, beginning of May.
One night I went to Mojos for a drink and a game of pool. The place was heaving with US soldiers. Trying to strike up a conversation with anyone was very difficult, they just didn't want to know. I was an outsider, an interloper who was on their patch.
As far as they were concerned the pool table was their personal property, reluctantly they conceeded to me having a game, which I duely lost. Your'd have thought they had won The World Cup of Pool with all the high 5's and whooping and hollering that went on when I lost.
Later in the evening another Brit went on the table and won. There then started a big arguement of the Rules of Pool. The US didn't like it when a free shot was played differently to how they usually play it. For Gods sake, it was a friendly game of pool.
From then on the few Brits in the bar stayed together chatting.
I can honestly say I didn't enjoy the atmosphere in Mojos that evening and never went back there during my visit to Udon that time.
However, I'm not so nieve to believe that the British Army act any differently when they are on manouvers. I'm sure they are the same.

Ugly Americans

A bunch of young studs let loose in Fantasyland / Thailand will never act like choirboys...regardless of their country of origin.

I was in my bungalow at Ubon on a Sunday in 1969 when an American GI came through our compound yelling for pu-yings. He began banging on my door, and Ms Teelok ran into the bedroom screaming. When I opened the door, he stumbled back down the stairs, and ran from the compound.

Guess if you know you are only cannon fodder for George then maybe you live every day as your last. Just wish they would do it elswhere.
I only wonder why military men have to stay in 5* hotels. In my days we were given a ground sheet to sleep on wherever we could.

Ah the memories !

Playschool Bar in Patong

hard to resist THOSE girls in uniform :)

They must have to get dressed quickly though - as most of them forgot their underwear :) :P

I fear we are drifting badly off topic and should be talking about accomodation (and yes they were very accomodating :) )

Yep totally off topic, but heres my input, indeed gals in uniform can truely be very pleasing to the eyes, depending on the uniform of course :)

And no I was never in the military either ;)
