This Week's Shopping Deal
I bought the last four jars of that 50 baht salsa at Big C about a week ago. I always go straight to the discount racks at Big C (Lotus no so much), Tops, and Villa.
The best gadget is the human brain.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Perhaps they have descided to reduce their prices after all the bad publicity about the "contaminated" food in Thailand with the "high price shops" in shopping malls getting a particularly bad report

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Couldn't edit post after I found the report ....
From Bangkok Post article .....
"SAMPLES SENT TO UK LAB FOR TESTING: 46.6% DON'T PASS TEST
The network sent the samples for testing at a lab in the United Kingdom which used a multi-residue pesticide screen testing method to examine for 450 chemical residues.
The overall results showed that 46.6% of samples contained residues higher than the accepted safety standard level, according to Prokchol Ousup, a Thai-PAN coordinator.
Notably, 57.1% of fruits and vegetables granted the “Q mark” by the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, were to be found contaminated at unsafe levels.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCTS
25% of the products certified as being organic, which were supposed to be free of chemicals, were found to contain chemical residues exceeding the accepted standards.
MORE EXPENSIVE RETAILERS HAVE A PROBLEM TOO
The network said that fruits and vegetables collected from modern trade outlets (hypermarkets & high-quality stores in malls) where consumers pay higher prices did not have much higher safety standards than those in wet markets, with 46% of produce from modern trade shops containing residues exceeding the standards, compared with 48% from fresh markets.
Residues of 11 prohibited substances were also found in the samples."

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
I take it that your post is in 'humour' statts.
However, I think that you should be extremely careful in suggesting that the Royal Project Shop sells anything other than organic vegetables of high quality!!

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Bob, I would not suggest that any particular shop/store/chain was involved, as none are named in the article, however I do find it more than a bit worrying that almost half the samples sent for testing (46.6%) were found to be "contaminated at unsafe levels".
It does not take much working out to think that if some are at 0% then there must be others where virtually their entire stock is contaminated.
Surely they must know where the samples came from, so why not name and shame as a way to get those who are breaking safety rules to clean up their produce.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
The 'survey' was hardly extensive. It consisted of
I suspect that the shocking results of the survey have more to do with the future funding of the organisation conducting it than a personal need to panic about it..
The area of the tests was158 samples
Of organic productspopular wholesale markets in Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Ratchaburi and in supermarkets
The report It certainly wont stop me buying vegetables, although Chinese Kalesmall amounts of residue were found in 2 of 10 samples
isn't normally on my list anyway..10 out of 11 samples containing residues
