This Week's Shopping Deal
Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Those Ayam beans are foul, at any price, much better options available.
Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
^ Got to agree there. I tried them once when Heinz beans, the only alternative way back then, disappeared from the market momentarily. Nowadays there's Heinz, Branston and Watties before one needs to resort to Ayam.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
I recall that you briefly had some really awful no-name baked beans from England at your Chern Chim emporium. You were honest and told everyone they were shockingly bad, hard as rocks and tasteless sauce but with Heinz beans commanding a k i n gs ransom back then, I reckon a few tried them.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑December 1, 2021, 12:09 pmBloomng heck i agree with you on something Tammy

Brooks are an adequate fall back IMHO. Ayam not a chance.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Agreed that Brooks are by far the best beans available here ........ those selling them Ayem things as baked beans should be done under the trades descriptions act There should be a notice on each tin saying "For best results place back on shelf"

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
On a previous visit to Pattaya I bought some English beans at Siamburi - can't remember which brand.
They were no better or worse than Ayam.
Both suffer greatly when compared to the Oz version of Heinz in Ham Sauce. Inconveniently, a product of New Zealand however.

Beans beans
their good for your heart
The more you eat
The more you....
When the pandemic began, I stocked up on canned baked beans, as my son used to like them. They are still on our shelf, as I also learned I prefer cannelini beans and black beans, or canned lentils, which I always rinse out of the can before adding to my culinary delights. Great for bean stews, casseroles, burritos, etc.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Certainly recommend the panang from 7/11.
They also do a good range of pork burgers from B29 - B40, with cheese/bacon/spice optional to taste. 40 secs in microwave quick n easy (and no hot lettuce & tomato to ruin it).

Killing roadside takeaways and protecting the environment.
Surprisingly, you end up with LESS plastic bags in 7/11, to say nothing of the smoke pollution caused by the roadside coal/wood/charcoal fires

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
Wrong. Every Thai knew where the good somtam, the tastiest tom-yam or the best pad thai could be had. CP and the government are telling you where you should be spending your money and what you should be eating. It's mass-produced, chemical drenched dross for the sheeple.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑December 7, 2021, 6:08 pmWaiting for that selfish ..PING FEELING

Too many good hole-in-the-wall restaurants and tasty food stalls have been forced out of business, killing a culture and cuisine, denying the population healthier eating options while forcing purveyors into bankruptcy. They started in Bangkok with the sidewalk food carts and by 2015 and the infamous years of "bringing happiness to the people" by tacking on endless long holiday weekends, they engineered a social change. Even the fascist police state that's Singapore got it right and created the Hawker's Center. Not these divots though.
After over two years of rocking the Nong Plalai dark side's tastebuds, Mrs tam's world famous stinky, home-made Isaan food emporium went from 100 to zero in less than 6 months after TWO 7-eleven's opened up opposite each other, 200 yards down the road. Even the busy German-owned place that had been there for a dozen years suddenly threw in the towel after the 7-eleven moved in next door.
You are what you eat.
Now, whaur's ma rowies?!

Now you just HAVE to be joking tam ......"killing a culture and cuisine, denying the population healthier eating options"
The only culture being killed by shutting these roadside vendors are the ones that science students spend ages growing in the lab on special glass dishes.
You could cut the medical bills in Isaan at a stroke if you regulated a) hygene b) ingredients c) storage and quality d) thorough cooking

Well I guess they do have McDonald's and Starbucks these days. With CP All's liberal loading of MSG in their TV dinners, it's a win-win.stattointhailand wrote: ↑December 7, 2021, 8:52 pmNow you just HAVE to be joking tam ......"killing a culture and cuisine, denying the population healthier eating options"

I'm not aware of any serious health risk to the greater number of Thailand's residents from their regional cuisine. Food poisoning mortality is below the radar like it is in most developed nations. I mean they can still get their sugar fix no matter what and not EVERYONE eats pla-rah with EVERYTHING.
Now if you have a delicate bowel, then maybe you should stick to what you know.

Re: This Week's Shopping Deal
From Bangkok post article .....
Despite sounding innocuous, liver fluke disease -- which is caused by a parasite -- is insidious in its nature. The parasite can live inside the liver for 20 years, feed on digestive fluid bile and infect and turn the bile duct into carcinogenic tissue. Each year, six million people in Thailand are infected, most of them villagers of the Northeastern region.
In Khon Kaen, the largest Northeastern province, there is a special ward to handle cases of cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).
The ward is the Cholangiocarcinoma Centre of Excellence at Srinagarind Hospital on the campus of Khon Kaen University. It is known as the world's largest cholangiocarcinoma ward.
"Now if you have a delicate bowel, then maybe you should stick to what you know."
Twould appear there are about 1 in 3 people in Isaan with a "delicate bowel"

hey statts, im in deep eating those 40b cheese bacon burgers from 7 /11. my advice with thai food, if it's sitting in a dish on display. then don't touch it. if it's refrigerated and they cook it in a wok at 1 billion degrees then you should be ok
