Albert Pujols

Post by Laan Yaa Mo » September 25, 2022, 5:29 am

Mr. Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals hit home runs #699 and 700 last night against the Los Angeles Dodgers becoming only the fourth major league baseball player to reach the 700 mark. Thus, this is a rare accomplishment. Congratulations, Mr. Pujols.

A local favorite for sure! Fort Osage Missouri high school, Maple Woods Community College, Kansas City, Missouri, and breaking into the majors with St. Louis, Missouri Cardinal baseball club in 2001. It is so great to see him return to the Cardinals to finish his 22-year major league career. His 2,008 (to date) RBIs are also an incredible feat, only Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron had more runs batted in and Albert is only 10 RBIs shy of the Babe's totals. It's quite possible he will be #2 in RBIs by the end of the season.

I watched him play in Busch Stadium a number of times.

Not to be an ass, but his RBI total is actually 2,208, and only 5 RBI’s behind Babe Ruth’s total of 2,213.

Well done Albert!

Considering one of the other 3 is the heavily asterisked Barry Bonds, Pujols is part of a very select trio of clean 700 major league home run hitters. =D>

Yes. I incorrectly typed in Albert's numbers and the math is off. Albert's chances of topping the Babe's total are quite good with 10 games left.

jackspratt once used the phrase "the esoterica of MLB statistics". I like that description because it is so spot-on. Here is another esoteric MLB stat.

'The Machine' has had an incredible career, and I was fortunate enough to see him hit one of those home runs this year in Toronto at the Sky Dome. Thanks for the comments guys, they are most welcome. As Shado notes, it is nice to see Pujols back home in a Cardinal's uniform as he bats his way to the Hall of Fame.

I hope he gets the RBIs necessary to pass the next guy. I was really pleased that he passed A-Rod on the home run list and got #700.

Something that seems to be overlooked is the fact that there are now two (2) players in MLB history with 3,000 hits, 700 HR’s, and 2000 RBI’s; Albert Pujols and Hank Aaron.

And only three (3) players, Albert Pujols, Hank Aaron, and Alex Rodriguez, have 3,000 hits, 600 HR’s, and 2,000 RBI’s.

No active player is even remotely close to reaching these stat lines.

Pujols hit home run 702 this afternoon at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. He and long time Cardinal catcher Molina (19th season with the Cardinals) and Adam Wainwright (pitcher with the Cards since 2006) walked off the field together with two outs in the bottom of the 5th inning. All three of these players have had remarkable careers.

Albert's final game at Busch Stadium and his last RBI also tied him with Babe Ruth at MLBs second place for all-time runs-batted-in (RBIs) at 2,214. Only Henry Aaron had more with 2,297. Remarkable careers indeed!

A 2-run homer today gives him #703 and 2,216 RBI’s.

Not only did Pujois knock in two more runs last night for St. Louis, but the Yankee's slugger Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the year breaking the American League record of 61 held by Roger Maris (New York Yankees) since 1961.

Is that good Uncle?

I remember back in the day making far more home runs than that when I'd left the pub late

Yes, it is very good in baseball terms as he did not use steroids. However, it is clearly understood that you numbered many more homos err homers during your late night alcohol fueled encounters

lunch time Uncle, no chance of being in a fit state to run anywhere late at night ....... finding the correct direction whilst staggering was hard enough

Check your bearings, statts - you may have wandered into the wrong thread.

But just to confirm, Alan Shearer is not in the same ballpark.
