It's important to some so I wasn't denigrating it. When I was living in Huston and the main sport franchises ticket prices went silly after winning stuff (Rockets) and building new stadiums (Rockets, Astros and Texans), me and a few mates started following the Houston Aeros when they brought their IHL games to the Summit before that all went pear-shaped. Fond memories of driving from Houston to Hamilton with two buddies to watch them win the Calder Cup at the dog pound. US Immigration were very forgiving of three hammered but happy 'Texans' just trying to find their way back home.

Suprisingly tam, 76 different countries are members of the IIHF (inc just about all those with expats in Thailand) so there is far more chance of people here caring than there would be for a sport played in only a handful of countries (Gridiron/Baseball/Rugby/Aussie Rules/Caber tossing etc)

Did you see Gordie Howe play with the Aeros? I saw him play for the Red Wings against the Leafs numerous times in the 50s and 60s. In addition, after their 1964 Stanley Cup loss to Toronto, Howe, Lindsay and Delvecchio invited me onto the Detroit team bus to get autographs and talk to the players.
