Very true mak .. nowadays the NL is full.of bigger richer clubs than Scunny ..it is notoriously difficukt to get out of at the right end the way the promotion n play offs are set up.. my beloved Iron coukd be there for quite some time and even the thought of 2 big derby games against the Codheads doesnt make it feel any better

Also on the bright side, in years past it would have been a relegation from Division 4. Relegation from League 2 sounds better.
Not in the Scottish leagues it isn't.

Adding to the footie retrospective, I was a Rangers supporter in my teens but only because my best pal was a Celtic man. Most games I actually attended were at Pittodrie watching Aberdeen in the 70's before their glory years under Ferguson.

I had a passive interest in then Highland League team Peterhead because I went to school there. I was also able to watch some of their home games from my girlfriend's upstairs bedroom window (but not on days her dad was working night shift).

Peterhead supplanted Rangers when the latter were demoted due to dodgy financial practices but quickly got back into the top flight due to another version of dodgy financial practices. It's akin to Chelsea going to he saved after suddenly being deemed a "cultural asset". The sporting world's version of the banking world labelling their failures as being "too big to fail".

Scunthorpe and Derby County are cultural assets. So was Bury.

"Any old iron? Any old iron?
Any, any, any old iron?
You look neat! Talk about a treat!
You look a dapper from your napper to your feet
Dressed in style wi' a brand new tile
And your father's old green tie on
I wouldn't give you tuppence for your old watch-chain
Old iron, old iron!"

Mr Splatt .. same as i honestly and correctly predicted last seasons debacle and relegation for my beloved Iron i will state now Scunny WILL NOT be relegated to the National league North .. we are simply better than that and our shirt is the best colour and design as voted by the UK fans association.

big kick off 23-20 pm Thai time .. live on BT sports ..set those reminders guys.

btw heres the Scunny version.

any old iron any old iron we sing up the iron
you gotta look sweet
walking doon the street

we sing high
we sing low
we sing up the iron
we dont give a dam for a cod head fan
old iron old iron.....
slight pause
we hate codheads
we hate codheads
slight pause
if i had the wins of a sparrow
if i had the arse of a cow
id fly over Blundel park Grimsby
and sh8t on the bastards below below
sh8t on sh8t on sh8t on the bastards below

all togeter now Jack n Statts...........Im sure you will all be singing that today.

I thought you guys wear the same coloured shirt as Aston Villa and West Ham.

You're correct. It seems to be a common choice for underachievers, no?

statts, given the apparent surge of interest in the IRONS, and this anonymous post on a different thread:
d rather watch may mother in law chew leafs ...or make sure the uncle isnt molesting the grand kids then watch UDFC ..

DM
How many degrees of separation do you see between the mighty Scunthorpe United, and UDFC?
