Err Hello at the back .....
"If the Danish subs had started being made 10 or 15 minutes later and saving one for ET?"

It's the Euro's

Format. In the knockout phase, if a match is level at the end of 90 minutes of normal playing time, extra time is played (two periods of 15 minutes each), where each team is allowed to make a sixth substitution. If still tied after extra time, the match is decided by a penalty shoot-out to determine the winners.

Not the Euros but didnt want to start a new thread topic ..but currently playing is the Copa Americas Cup final between Argentina v Brazil .. with 30mins gone Argies leading 1 - 0 with a former Manu u man Di Maria scoring ..Fred also former Man u has been booked for the Brazilians ... watching this game i can say the Euros has been a more exiting higher temp style ..even with the likes of Scotland and Wales involved...its obvious to see why all the ""stars" want to play in the EPL and takes a hugeslice of worldwide viewing figures at 97% according to a recent poll.

BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD

BTW DM is neutral is the copa cup .. cant stand Neymars theatricals but love a Brazilian style fluff cut...and the Argies nicked the Falklands all be it briefly.

If Pele is playing for Brasil still, look for him to get the winning goal.

Prediction time

I dont think the final will be a classic goal fest .. a scrappy tight 0-0 or 1-0 more likely .. hoping for an England win but wont alter the course of my life who wins .. my heart says England my head says Italy and its too close to call so

A draw at 90 mins with an odd goal to win it in ET .... for ...... Italy. :( ..dont want to go to pens regardless.

SORRY

Yep 0-0 at full time , then I expect we'll lose on penalties.

There's a lot been said here about the bad luck and other unfair happenstances that have 'robbed' England of the game's biggest prizes. The following is a good read of England's travails with the monkey since 1966. It does highlight the broader truths such as their absolutely dire campaigns with disaffected players, disconnected managers and the UK media massaging some huge egos. For example, everyone talks about Frank Lampard's goal denied as a memorable and success-ending event whereas the 4-1 loss to the Germans was just a reflection of their abject overall failure, or as the writer says, "...the South Africa World Cup in 2010 produced an England campaign of unrelenting misery, turgid football and eventually a complete and utter pasting."

Going out to start the celebrations soon so, prediction.....

I've no idea.

Started the tournament thinking France were streets ahead and, England were clearly the 2nd best bets. I still think that England are a better team/squad than Italy and, on that basis will go 2-0. Kane is the best striker in world football and we have depth that others dont so, why not?

However, I can also see a game changer which could be a Pickford or Walker error or a Kalvin or Maguire red card.

I think this is getting a wee bit out of hand in Blighty.

E mail from a distant cousin last night (not had contact for about 3 years) and even she (78 years old and never watches football) is talking about sitting down with a glass of wine to watch the match
I asked what the last match she watched on TV was .......... "oh thats easy when England won the final in 60's"

On the bright side, I suppose (unlike most of us) she does have a 100% record

Well done to Roberto Mancini for only taking 3 years to pull the bodies from the wreckage of Italian national football.

Meanwhile in other news, it's been 55 years since the day when...

A pretty awful penalty shoot-out, with half the penalties missed. One would have thought that these supposed skilled, highly paid players could manage five quality kicks in a row, which gave the ‘keeper no chance to save. Not the case here.
Overall, I would be more disappointed if England had lost, whilst deserving to win. I certainly can’t say that. One team has to win, whilst a draw may have been the fairest result. Then again, with Italy’s near total dominance of the 2nd half with England seemingly having no idea what to do about it, perhaps Italy edged it?

I hope the disappointed English supporters behave themselves post match. There were too many ugly incidents after England's lucky win against Denmark.
