Correct Dean. I always liked Sunderland fans :D

Powerplays have been part of cricket for the best part of 20 years. They are not unique to T20 and they form part of the tactics. Stats is actually defeating his original argument that it is just a slog decided by the toss by suggesting powerplays are "bloody stupid"

England had the balls to attack the Indians. India chose to be more conservative or, more likely, England bowled better and restricted talented Indian batters in a vital part of the game.

T20 isn't perfect but its entertaining and, England just happen to be damn good at it at the moment. Let's celebrate and not find fault.

Deano summed it up ........ a good "SLOG"

cricket has batsmen who have a "knock" followed by a couple of bowlers who may or may not have a "Slog" at the end of the innings.

20/20 has almost always been decided by the toss, and I stand by that.

Bull****

Englands glorious :-& victory was down to the Indians being scared to attack a bloody stupid "powerplay' (what's that all about, certainly not cricket). Perhaps they should introduce a powerplay into footie ........ only 3 defenders allowed in your penalty area for the first 15 mins of a game ....... oh 'ang on that's Jesse's usual tactics at Leeds isnt it
With all this collosal gloomy negativity about Little England's current foray in worldly sport events, has Mrs Statts hidden all the sharp and pointy objects around the house yet?

She's Thai, that requires the sharp pointy object to be "at hand" to trump logic and common sense in an argument

Brilliant from England. Teaching the world how to pick a 20-20 team. Hales and Butler perfect for the format. Australia need to catch up and open with Stoinis and Maxwell, Marsh at 3 and just pick big hitters a few who can roll the arm over. Brave new world 20-20 and the poms seem to be leading the way in this tournement.
Hope the pakis smash the soap dodging pricks in the final :D

I'll just bask in those 3 words from an Aussie cricket fan and, ignore the rest :D

Ashes start in about 7 months. I dont expect "brilliant from England" to be repeated too often before the end of July

Surely you'd have those two opening the batting in the first test - Roy at 3.

Sounds a great idea if you want to practice recovering from 10 - 2 after the first over of each match

You know I'd never considered that.

Buttler will be down the order I expect. Just checked and, Hales average for tests is 27.29 with a strike rate of c43%. I think both are found wanting when there's a few slips in play but, not more so than the other no-hopers tried out since Sir Alistair Cook retired. Cant see Roy getting another chance at test cricket.

Was looking af tickets for the tests in the summer earlier this week but, if we do open with those 3, I wont be buying for anything after day 2.

England winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

Great bowling from Sam Curran. Pakistan 137/8 from the 20 overs.

Come on England, let's get this won with several overs and plenty of wickets to spare.

Only 1 place in Victoria where there are no thunder storms at the minute. No wonder it's swinging around a bit.

Pakistan lost their mojo when Afridi did his knee in.

Lucky.

Ignoring Mr Negative....

A deserved win but Stokes rode his luck. We had enough batting to always win with or without Ben after a great bowling performance without our 2 injured quickies (obviously overlooked by the bitter Scotsman).

Nice to chat about sport sensibly with a bit of banter. Saw your comments on the other thread MJL. I've flounced from that one apart from the odd remark, until the 2 principal children there do one. Hee, hee, hee.

Statts: still arguing the toss.

Scotsman: not bitter.

Stokesey and Co: still lucky.

Don't think anyone can argue that the best team didn't win the comp. Always a bit of luck involved when the ball is looping about like that but the Pakis were always 20 - 30 runs short of a competative total.
Looking forward to the start of the summer of test cricket from the Gabba in about 3 weeks time. I think we play some of one dayers against England between now and the first test. Bring on the cricket.

DM not really a cricket fan but i along with a decent crowd watched the final in Chris Place yesterday and enjoyed it .. this 20-20 format is way more exiting than PROPER test cricket which at times can send a glass eye to sleep.... a few pints ,Sunday roast and the usual banter made for a smashing afternoon.

Well done to Engerland on their win.
