Dang, that's b*ggered up the couch potato plans.
Looking forward to spending 16:30 - 00:30 watching Essex v Northants in the last of this seasons 4 day games screened on Youtube.
Little more than 20 mins into day 2 and Essex have won by an Innings and 44 runs

Oh well, better check whats happening with the ironing for some entertainment I suppose :-k

Not the wild west but the wild south:
A Dunedin cricketer who assaulted two opponents has been banned from taking the field for three and a-half years.

William John Campbell's ban was one of the most severe in New Zealand cricket history, the Otago Cricket Association (OCA) said, but it provided little comfort to his victim.

The 58-year-old [GT - the victim] , whose team had been playing Campbell's ''Mad Magpies'' on January 25 when the violent outburst took place, said he had expected a harsher penalty.

''Clouting another player's one thing but clouting an umpire's another,'' he said.
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/cricke ... 6DMF6CHWY/

There's some speculation that the perp will ignore the ban and try to play again despite the ban.

All coming from an argument about a wide.

No Stokes (still being kept away from sharp instruments). No Archer. Hard to see that batting line up getting more than 150 too many times if the wickets are prepared correctly.

Scotland did a proper job beating Bangladesh by 6 runs in their T20 World Cup opener.

Would be funny if the Jocks lost to Papua New Guinea later today but, cant see that happening.

After today, only Oman stand in the way of Scotland joining the big boys and a few hammerings.

Barney, as a keen observer, are you aware whether under the Laws of Cricket, the sporran is allowed to be substituted for the box when the Jocks are facing the new ball attack?

Scotland sunk Oman by 8 wickets. So they go into Super 12 group 2 with Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and NZ among others. England get Bangladesh, Australia and Windies among others in Group 1.

Wow no I didn’t know that. But can see the merit.
Is that for both their gender teams.
I will certainly keep an eye out.
Who then decides when the new ball is finished as a new ball.

The Jocks dont need to worry about a box. Theres usually not much there to hit.

The qualifying process has left a fairly lopsided looking draw. England and the Aussies have to get in the top 2 from a group with SA, SL, WI and Bangla whilst the New Zealanders have Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia.

Its unthinkable but, Scotland could end up winning more games than England!

It's difficult to see past India as winners.

Samster

I’m trying to call it for a dark horse to win but with not to much cricket with full gems lately it’s hard to say.
WI may have an outside chance to advance

Comments like that are best kept to oneself Sam as it will just get our Jock members lead by Tammy all juiced up .. our friends from North of the border crave sporting success so much .....ITS BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME since any real sporting win.....oh hang on 0-0 at Wembley.

Not a cricket fan though this tourny does seem to be rather entertaining .. my only time at a match was circa late 80s England v NZ at Edgbaston and i recall we all went in fancy dress as Adolf Hilter (ok in them days) and got extremely bladdered..

Good luck to both England and Scotland (little bit) for the rest of the tournament.

Is this because England's forte isn't so much about strength or length but more about the spin?

Meanwhile, back on topic...

Despite the fact that everyone else's spin bowlers are miles better, there's no doubt that the pitch may be better for the English ones.

At least that spin is based on the fact of England's frequent if short-lived global domination in the 'real' cricket world versus their efforts in the footie WC where everything about English hope and glory is all spin.

Well my call of dark horse WI got blown out of the water by tournament equal favourites England I’ll have to revert to claiming the Aussies to take the cup.
Had a bit of a scare against the proteas but prevailed.
Maxwell to be the best bat by the time we win the final.

I'd never bet against the Aussies but, I just dont see them winning 4 or 5 consecutive games which is what will be needed.

For me, either India or Pakistan. England have a chance but, they will have at least one game where they're undone by spin. If it's a group game, no problem but, in sudden death, they will be out. No surprise to see the 3 wickets taken by bowlers yesterday were all by the pretty average WI spinners.
