India retained the Border-Gavaskar 2-1 after winning a thrilling fourth Test at the Gabba, where Australia had not been beaten since 1988. It is the 'Gabbatoir' no more thanks to Ajinkya Rahane's indomitable 'B-team', unrecognisable from India's first-choice side due to injuries and absences.

Still, Australia could not prevail, with patchy batting throughout, questionable captaincy from Tim Paine and poor series for bowling mainstays Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.
