Re: EPL Banter Thread
Even Shearers getting his nappy in a twist now
"Shearer joined Wright for a powerful interview on behalf of the Premier League to discuss both their current experiences and instances from their playing days.
The recent renewed focus against racism prompted the Newcastle legend to recall a popular chant about Cunningham from his time on the terraces.
Cunningham spent two years on Tyneside after joining in 1985, and was regularly serenaded with his own song by supporters.
However, the racial undertones of the chant which was sung by 'thousands' is something Shearer can not understand almost 40 years on.
He told the Premier League: "When I went to watch football [at] Newcastle in the early eighties, when I was 12, 13, 14, we had a black centre-forward Tony Cunningham.
"And one of the songs the Gallowgate End used to sing was 'he's black, he's broon, he's playing for the Toon'.
"There were thousands [who] sang it. He acknowledged, he clapped, he smiled. That was his way of saying thanks, I guess. But I mean..."
I mean a) it was in a different era when being called black/fat/stupid/paddy/parky/streak a piss/Gyppo etc went with the territory
You didn't need 16 appointments with your therapist to get over it, you just shrugged it off and carried on
There were not (as Wrighty and the Kick it out brigade would have us believe) 50 odd thousand Racinst KKK members in the gallowgate.
The thing that annoyed me most was not Shearer being "Uncomfortable" with our behaviour 40 years ago. it was the fact that he still didn't have the balls to repeat the proper words which started with the letter "C" and rhymed not Br and rhymed

No wonder the Big Fat Cockney B*stard has been spotted with a sickly grin from ear to ear over the last couple of days. It appears the US have just removed the Saudis from the "Piracy watchlist" (one of the main excuses the Prem were using to block the takeover) Couldn't have asked for better timing with the Prem having to respond to his legal challenge this Friday and Arbitration booked in for next month

Just seen this Tam .. too late im afraid as Chairman Swan has blown the budget for the up n coming L2 campaign on a position he thought most needed to be strengthened sadly not a striker ... we would all like to welcome Denise to the club , in her role in the South stand pie shop come August.tamada wrote: ↑May 18, 2021, 1:40 pmHarry 'Mr. Tottenham' Kane wants out according to the Grauniad.

First teamer Mactee has jumped the Iron ship and moved to the codheads meaning at the moment Scunny officially could not field a first team due to lack of staff/players .. its seeming more n more difficult to get players to come to Scunthorpe .. which surprises me
Sadly we are doomed .. with no budget , no players relegation into non league pretty much a cert.

Bumping this thread since the other one seems to be turning into a bit of a monologue with the usual snipers in the peanut gallery.

What like when Jesse Marsch thought he was allowed to take all 11 Leeds players off after 2 minutes and replace them with his defensive team for the next phase in his playbook only to get told he was only allowed 3 subs in 90 mins and in "football" the forwards were expected to defend as well

Re: EPL Banter Thread
The Everton bashing will move into Scunny's thread and readers will hear less about Scunny because the overwhelming focus will be on the Toffees. If the Toffees go down the toilet in the next couple of months, perhaps next season you might create a thread just for your beloved Scunny.

Be just like old times Scunny, Sarfend, Codeds, Wrexham, Notts County. Halifax, Daggers, Aldershit, Barnet, that mob from the South West Riviera and of course the mighty Gateshead (assuming they stay top of North)

Never though of it like that Statto .. Chesterfield n Stockport in the mix but looking like favs to be promoted .. lots miles to travel for the Scunny faithful next season not too many fixtures within 3 hours except of course the Cods .. Halifax n Notts County second closest after that a map required.stattointhailand wrote: ↑March 10, 2022, 3:50 pmBe just like old times Scunny, Sarfend, Codeds, Wrexham, Notts County.
