We are hearing that Scunthorpe are closing in on the signing of Sheffield United striker Lyle Taylor. Partick Thistle and Falkirk are also chasing Taylor, but it appears Scunthorpe are in pole position to land the 24-year-old.

Pre-season friendlies start this week,including......

FRIDAY 11TH JUNE

Buxton v Macclesfield.....just a 30 minute drive via the Cat and Fiddle for Macc fans.As Macclesfield currently only have 7 players signed up,this could be a big test of their early season fitness !
Cheltenham Town v Wolverhampton Wanderers....big early season test for Cheltenhams long serving manager,Mark Yates.

WEDNESDAY 16TH JUNE

Bottesford Town v Scunthorpe United.....a short journey for the Iron fans as Bottesford is linked to southern Scunthorpe, though more upmarket. 8)
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

JULY ??

Up market ? ..... if that means you have got glass albeit broken in your windows instead of plywood the suppose Bottesford is the posh part of town ... personally i prefer to more down to earth East side of the town where even the dog sh*t bins have padlocks on em and the native language is xxxxx .

Back in the real world ...... looking forward to another decent season from the Iron as the successful squad from last has been built on by the genius that is Russ Wilcox .

Yes,sorry I meant JULY  all these late nights watching the World Cup are leaving me knackered....either that or the first signs of dementia are setting in !
But I see Scunthorpe have offered improved terms to Sam Winnall who scored 23 goals last season. This, after League 1 rivals MK Dons expressed their interest in the striker. [-X
A "must keep" for Scunny,I would think DM ?

One guy does not make a team but ..YES I would hope the Iron can keep his services , if he wants to go to Milton Keynes he must have mental issues its worse than Scunny plastic cows and all . Sounds to me its all about the money/salary and terms and he is playing one club off against the other .

Im very positive about the new season and would hope for at least a play off spot [-o<

The younger brother of Udon Thani FC`s Tomiwa Bolarinwa was playing for Leyton Orient last season, but is now going up in the world, and will next season play for Brentford in Championship. His name is Moses Odubajo. In the future he might be good enough for Udon Thani too... :D

His brother at UDFC told me before he signed for Brentford, that they was hoping for a Premier League club to sign him, but he is young and Championship is a good league, so if he do good there who knows what the future might bring.

Macclesfield Town started their pre-season with a 3-2 victory over "crack Romanian side" ASA Tirgu Mures in a hastily arranged friendly last night.
The Romanians are in England for a pre-season tour which also includes games against Middlesbrough and a Manchester United XI.

Zid .........the clearer picture on your post above as reported in the Macclesfield Evening Gazzette ..

Turns out the Romanian side duped the Maccs into a hasty game and were all asylum seekers , shortly after the final whistle was blown by the Somalian referee all but one headed for the home office to claim a right to stay in the UK the other is still waiting outside the local benefits office.

How the Maccs were tricked in such a dastardly way is open to conjecture as the Romanian players were both male and female aged between 40 - 70 yrs ...and nobody noticed !! ..

STILL WELL DONE TO THE Maccs ON THEIR GREAT OPENING SEASON VICTORY !!

This would never happen in Scunthorpe ... as the Iron would not be so foolish ........ and loose .

Disappointment for Scunthorpe as striker,Sam Winnall 23,joins Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.
Winnall scored 23 times in 49 appearances for promoted Scunthorpe last season and was recently offered an improved deal after interest from MK Dons.
Barnsley have also signed out of contract goalkeeper,Ross Turnbull.

Some more pre-season friendly results....
AP Leamington 1 Cheltenham Town 2 ; Macclesfield Town 1 Crewe Alexandra 0 ;
Altrincham 0 Manchester United Res. 5 ; Scunthorpe United 0 Lincoln City 1 ;
The last result means that Lincoln are now in the final of the Lincolnshire County Cup where they will meet either Gainsborough,Boston or Grimsby in the final,at a date still to be decided.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Most certainly not good news for Scunny Zid ... Winnal leaving FOR BARNSLEY of all places was purely a money move so ive been informed from my Iron backroom sauce ... it was down to just a few quid over the season but he chose Barnsley as they offered just that bit more cash , sad really as the scunny fans took to him , that said well done to the Scunny chairman Mr Swan for sticking to his guns and not allowing the player to hold the club to ransom ... cant confirm but the fee was around the 800k mark plus add-ons for appearances again from my sauce .

Conference North side Hyde played Altrincham in a pre-season friendly yesterday..
The game was 'tweeted' live by 'Hyde FC Offical'.
However the side contained rather a large number of trialists & rather than tweet their correct names (if he even knew) the tweeter allocated them 'nom-de-plumes' based on a far left wing political theme.
So the starting 11 were...
Thewlis, Brizell, Fidel Castro, Vladimir Lenin, Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Hughes, Maximilien de Robespierre, Thurston, Tony Benn, Tames
& the subs...
Day, Friedrich Engels, Mahatma Ghandi, Andreas Baader, Che Guevara, Aneurin Bevan, Tony Blair...
Some nice tweets as the game progressed towards a 2 all draw. This was my favourite though..
GOOOOOAAAALLLL: Hyde 2-0 Altrincham. Engels with the goal. Emerging from the shadow of Marx. The crowd goes mild.
Hyde finally won 5-4 at the penalty shoot out..
