NCAA Football 2013-2014

Post by Laan Yaa Mo » August 31, 2013, 3:08 am

The Ole Miss Rebels got the new season off to an exciting start with a last minute 39-35 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores, and the South Carolina Gamecocks thumped the North Carolina Tarheels 27-10.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be trying to win a third straight national championship, but it will not be an easy task. Ohio State has a powder puff schedule, and might make it to the big game with an unbeaten record.

The Alabama Crimson Tide started their defence of the National Title with a thumping of the Virginia Tech Gobblers, 35-10. The folks at Baton Rouge have reason to smile as the L.S.U. Tigers outslugged the T.C.U. Horned Frogs, 37-17 in Dallas.

There were some notable upsets too as the Clemson Tigers outlasted the Georgia Bulldogs, 38-35. It will be tough for the 'Dawgs now with South Carolina, and Florida still to play.

The North Dakota State Bison upset Kansas State, 24-21; Oklahoma State beat Mississippi State, 21-3; Towson 33 Connecticut 18; Northern Illinois 30 Iowa 27; Eastern Washington 49 Oregon State 46!

The Miami Hurricanes have upset the Florida Gators, 21-16 despite the Gators out gaining Miami 413 to 212 yards. The big one today pits the South Carolina Gamecocks against the Georgia Bulldogs. If the 'Dawgs lose this one, their hopes for a national title will be down the drain.

Where are the vaunted SEC defences?

Georgia rallied for a 41-30 victory over the Gamecocks today, but one has to wonder how these teams will do in the future when they surrender so many points. The Ole Miss Rebels are off to a 17-0 start over Southeast Missouri State, and nearing the half, the Richmond Spiders are pulling an upset over the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 21-10.

There are a few big games on tap for later today. The big one will be when the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies and Johnny Football.

However, there is a big one in Austin, Texas too where the Ole Miss Rebels try to win their third game of the year against their toughest test of the year to date vs. the Texas Longhorns.

The U.C.L.A. Bruins travel to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders already have beaten the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, 20-10, on Thursday night.

Well, in a game with little defence the Alabama Crimson Tide barely defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 49-42. It was exciting but for 'Bama to give up so many points does not bode well for their National Championship hopes.

The Ole Miss Rebels rolled over the Texas Longhorns 44-23 right in Austin.

U.C.L.A. whipped Nebraska 41-21; Louisville dropped Kentucky 27-13; Michigan barely got by Akron 28-24; Fordham downed Temple in a close one, 30-29; Oregon Ducks manhandled the Tennessee Volunteers 59-14; Central Florida beat Penn State 34-31; Ohio St. 52 California 34; Oregon State Beavers 51 Utah Utes 48; Arizona State Sun Devils 32 Wisconsin Badgers 30; and Old Dominion routed Howard 76-19.

In university scores from the Great White North: Western Mustangs 83 Ottawa Gee Gees 27; Guelph Gryphons 38 the Varsity Blues 12; Calgary Dinosaurs 36 Saskatchewan Huskies 24; Manitoba Bisons 38 British Columbia Thunderbirds 32; Regina Rams 55 Alberta Golden Bears 35.

Finally, in junior action the Regina Thunder outlasted the Saskatoon Hilltops 29-28.

The Virginia Tech Gobblers pulled off a minor upset last night by downing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 17-10.

Big games on tap tomorrow have the Ole Miss Rebels visiting the Alabama Crimson Tide at Tuscaloosa. I am looking for the Johnny Rebs to pull off the upset. Another huge game has the Georgia Bulldogs pitted against the L.S.U. Tigers.

In a big game last night, the U.C.L.A. Bruins remained unbeaten with a 34-27 victory over the Utah Utes.
The Texas Longhorns actually won a game with their victory over the lowly Iowa State Cyclones, 31-3.
And the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, no relation to the Saskatoon Hilltops, topped Louisiana-Monroe-I know, 31-10.

Tonight Brigham Young and Utah State will be playing.

Last night, the U.S.C. Trojans under their new coach bested the Arizona Wildcats by the tune of 38-31. Also, the Louisville Cardinals kept their undefeated record intact with a convincing 24-10 drubbing of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Meanwhile...

To light up a cool night in Toronto, the Varsity Blues dumped their uptown rivals, the York Yeoman, by a score of 56-35. A great win it was for the University of Toronto over Dork U.: 'Fight, fight, fight for the Blue and White, and the honour of the U. of T.' Go Varsity!

There are a few scores in this Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday night the Queen's Golden Gaels slaughtered the turkeys' in this case the Waterloo Warriors by a count of, 78-21. St. Mary's Huskies outlasted the Acadia Axemen, 11-9.

South of the border, the Virginia Tech Gobblers are victors over the Pittsburgh Panthers, 19-9.
South Carolina Gamecocks 52 Arkansas Razorbacks 7

Army won their second game of the year by doubling up on Eastern Michigan, 50-25.
Navy lost their second game of the year as they were crushed by the Duke Blue Devils, 35-7.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs 27 Kansas Jayhawks 17.
Nebraska Cornhuskers 44 Purdue Boilermakers 7
Houston Cougars 25 Memphis State Tigers 15

The Mizzou Tigers are outlasting a depleted Georgia Bulldog squad 34-26 with about four minutes to go. Georgia has the ball on their own 32, second down and 9 yards to go. Go 'Dawgs! It's now 41-26 for Missouri. So the national championship hopes of Georgia have gone down the drain with the loss of 5 regulars on offence.

In a big surprise, the Texas Longhorns are on their way to an upset with a 36-20 lead over the Oklahoma Sooners. Some pundits were predicting this would be the last game for the coach of the 'Horns, but it looks like he will live to see another day.

Sad to say, but the Ole Miss Rebels have lost their third game in a row. This time they were bested by the Texas A&M Aggies, 41-38. Last year the Johnny Rebs lost to the same team, 31-28. Both of these last minute losses were at home. Maybe if the Rebels play the Aggies on the road next year they will emerge with a victory?!?

Here are the results of some other games in the United States and Canada:

Alabama Crimson Tide 48 Kentucky Wildcats 7
Texas Longhorns 36 Oklahoma Sooners 20
Auburn Tigers 62 Western Carolina 3
Maryland Terrapins 27 Virginia Cavaliers 26
Baylor Bears 35 Kansas State Wildcats 25
Tulane Green Wave 36 East Carolina Pirates 33
Wyoming Cowboys 38 New Mexico Lobos 31
Brigham Young Cougars 38 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 20
U.C.L.A. Bruins 37 California Golden Bears 10
Oregon State Beavers 52 Washington State Cougars 24
Oregon Ducks 45 Washington Huskies 24
Penn State 43 Michigan Wolverines 40

In Canada on Saturday, the McMaster Mauraders beat the Laurier Golden Hawks, 28-5 and in Canadian Junior Football,
the Saskatoon Hilltops will be playing the Calgary Colts later this afternoon.

In the upset of the day...well, next to Texas A&M beating Ole Miss and Mizzou beating Georgia, the Utah Utes pulled off a last-minute goal line stand to defeat the Stanford Indians, 27-21.
