I hope Chelski prevail tonight, because if they don't I'm worried that nice Mon Sewer Prattini will find some way to change the allocation of CL places to English teams, and that could hurt Citeh, Chelski, Manure, Liverpuddle, Emerton et all in future seasons

European Football Competitions 2013/14

For those of you who missed the game, the final score was Chelsea 1 Atletico Madrid 3.
Chelsea took the lead on 36 minutes with a goal from the rejuvenated (on the night) Torres but let Atletico back into the game just before half time with a goal that owed much to poor marking,as anything.
In the second half things got worth for Chelsea as Eto'o collided with Costa in the penalty area right in front of the referee. The official had no option but to point to the spot and Costa scored from the penalty.
Chelsea now had to go out on the attack, leaving gaps at the back, and it was no surprise when Atletico netted a third goal on 70 minutes.
Atletico keeper,Courtois, did have to make a couple of fine saves from Terry and Luiz near the end but Atletico stood firm.
So it will be the first ever same city final in Lisbon on 24th May and promises to be a cracker.

For mat80 the double with Arsenal and Real Madrid looks very much on. :( He's not been associated with such success since Rod Laver won Wimbledon in 1961 !
Probably cheaper for me to hire a Filipino hit man to take care of this matter ! :-k :D
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

A small point, but do I understand correctly that the Athletico 'keeper is actually a Chelsea player on loan? I believe he's been there some time and unlike teams playing in the same, normal league, I guess Chelsea didn't know they'd be playing Athletico until recently. Normal for an on loan player being ineligible to play against his own Club, I think.

Although the English Premier League has a ruling to allow parent clubs to forbid their players from playing against them, UEFA has no such ruling so Courtois was able to play against Chelsea.

Interesting. Possibly a small whoops from Chelsea's point of view, not seemingly that the 'keeper played such a blinder to alter the result.

A little bit too much information from Athletico coach

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone praised his players' mothers for nurturing a winning mentality after reaching the Champions League final.
The Spanish side came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1, setting up a clash with city rivals Real Madrid on 24 May.
"I want to thank the mothers of these players because they gave birth to them with balls this big," said Simeone, gesturing as if holding a football.

Last night was the second leg of the Europa League semi finals.......
Juventus 0 Benfica 0 (aggregate 1-2)
Valencia CF 3 Sevilla 1 (aggregate 3-3,Sevilla win on away goals)

So Benfica and Sevilla will contest the final in Turin next month.
10 man Benfica survived a late Juventus onslaught to progress and Stephane Mbia,on loan from QPR,scored in the 5th minute of injury time to send Sevilla through on away goals.Earlier Valencia CF overturned a two goal first leg deficit to lead 3-2 on aggregate before Mbias late, late strike.

Outstanding euphemism cum innuendo Zid,( in relation to what was a clear penalty), of which your mate Mourinho would have been proud =D> ; certainly preferable to his blatantly untrue comment of " I didn't see it".

As I posted, prior to the game, would be the case if Chelsea lost, Mourinho has quickly exonerated himself from any blame for the defeat. It is official a la The Special One :-s ; the defeat was entirely the fault of that lazy, uncommitted, selfish 20 year old Eden Hazard, who shows no loyalty to the needs of the club or his team mates.

In case you don't recognise the name.Hazard is the player for whom Mourinho happily got Chelsea to pay THIRTY TWO MILLION POUNDS; who he described as 'the best player in the world', and again as 'the best player on the planet'; who after the epic matches against Liverpool & City he lavshed praise upon for his outstanding performances; who he has consistently selected ahead of Mata, Oscar & Willian; who he has selected to play in 48 games this season, and who has scored OVER 25% OF CHELSEA'S GOALS; who HE was responsible for selecting to play in the game against Atletico, despite his ALLEGED failings and despite having available 35 other experienced international players, (presumably NOT lazy, uncommitted etc. etc.). Oh also, I should mention, Hazard is the young player who, for the second time in his young career has been named 'Best Young Player of the Year, and for whom EVERY top club in Europe will be anxious to pay a fortune to sign, clearly indicating the universal opinion of Mourinho's attempted character assassination of a player, universally considered to be one of this seasons shining lights in Europe. This action, as has proven to be Mourinho's nature throughout this season, solely to distract attention from his own considerable failings.
May I commit the sacrilege of suggesting that this 'Special One' , who is the Champions League "Specialist in Failure" :-" \:D/ ,( having now failed at the semi final stage for six consecutive years, despite having limitless resources at his disposal), should take a long hard look at himself , and start accepting responsibility for his own failings.
Perhaps by doing so, he could start the long hard road back to becoming, once again, that witty, pleasant, courteous and talented Manager who lit up our lives, the EPL, and football in general, a decade ago ; far preferable to the current unpleasant, egocentric, and far less talented person into which he has metamorphosed.

La Liga run-in

Real Madrid will be without Cristiano Ronaldo as they face Celta Vigo in a game which could end their title hopes.

The Portugal forward was hurt during the 1-1 draw at Real Valladolid, and boss Carlo Ancelotti said: "He won't play because he's not 100% fit."

Real have already won the Copa del Rey, and face city rivals Atletico in the Champions League final.

However, they will be out of the title race if they drop points, or if Atletico beat Malaga on Sunday.

La Liga title run-in

SUNDAY, MAY 11, 2014

Time
17:00 GMT Atletico Madrid v Malaga Vicente Calderon
17:00 GMT Celta Vigo v Real Madrid Estadio Balaídos
17:00 GMT Elche v Barcelona Martínez Valero

Sunday May 18th

16:00 GMT Barcelona v Atletico Madrid Estadio Camp Nou
16:00 GMT Real Madrid v Espanyol Estadio Santiago Bernabéu

Athletico and Barcelona both drew whilst Real Madrid lost yesterday. Athletico remain three points ahead of Barcelona going into the final game but need at least a draw as Barcelona have a superior goal difference. Real are out of it.
