Boxing

Post by Aardvark » June 18, 2009, 8:37 am

http://au.rd.yahoo.com/search/rss/Danny ... tID=148843 Roy Jones jr says he will fight outside the US for the first time in his professional carrier against Aussie fighter Danny Green. A big ask for Danny IMO but who knows, maybe he can pull it off :D

Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto will fight for the WBA welterweight title tomorrow morning (Thai time Sunday, 15 November). I believe the bout will be shown on both Home Cable and True Vision channels. I think the preliminary bouts will begin around 08:30 and the main event probably sometime between 10:00 and 11:00.

Well, apparently the fight is not being televised on True Vison, but can be seen on Home Cable channel 53.

All over, never really a contest after round 2.
Pak Man a real class act.

The knockdowns in Rounds 3 & 4 took a lot out of Cotto. A great performance from the Pacman. =D>

Floyd Mayweather vs Pacman has to be in the cards. Floyd would be the favorite, especially if fought in Vegas, but Manny will have a lot of supporters, Filipinos and Americans.

Thanks for the tips on Thai TV channels that carried the fight. Not one that I wanted to miss.

I was looking forward to it as well PH. I thought it would be a real contest with Cotto the stronger and harder puncher (as he is a natural at this weight) against a quicker & better boxer. As it turned out Cotto seemed to hold no advantages. I think I was maybe a little harsh against Hatton in his match, I think more credit should have been given by me to the winner.
I don't envy anyone who takes him on at the moment. Cotto can hit a bit but his punches seemed to have zero impact.
Mayweather would be an intriguing fight. Normally he has had the edge in speed & class - not sure if that would be the case now... :D :D

Good assessment, Bob. I also thought Hatton, De La Hoya and now Cotto would be stronger and heavier punchers than Pacquiao. I'm gonna have to stop underrating this little big man. :D

Wonder if this one will be televised via satellite? Streaming video on pc won't work for me. Guess I can try to avoid all mention of the result and look for it on one of the torrent sites tomorrow.

Roy Jones was solid in his last bout but so was Danny Green. Hope Green doesn't go into this bout with too much "respect" for Jones. Never have liked the ring posturing by Jones. :fryingpan:

Don't think he will go in with too much respect, but I hope he doesn't go in all cocky either [-X http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/ ... ays-green/

Actually ,after watching the video,I think the referee stopped the fight to soon! The hands didn't come down and he still had his legs under him!

I have seen many of Roy Jones Jr. fights recently and he lays on the ropes covering himself like this a lot! There is no doubt in my mind that he was stunned, but he did not look in imminent danger,to me!

Of course ''home court'' has it advantages in all sports

I am happy the DG won the fight though! =D> =D>

Danny Green was getting through Roy Jones Jr's coverup with some solid uppercuts so a knockout was imminent anyway. Maybe if Jones had returned a few punches after he hit the deck the ref would have let it continue. Sometimes the beaten fighter's corner will throw in the towel or climb into the ring but didn't look like it in this one that I could tell.

A good result, agreed. Maybe Jones, at 40, will retire now. He also took a pretty good beating from Joe Calzaghe last year so it's time but will he call it quits?

Thanks for posting the vid, Jack. Glad I didn't pay $50 PPV to watch a 2 minute fight. :D

Just to let you know a little local gossip, Danny said when he entered the Ring and Jones took his Robe off he looked Cold like he'd had no warm up. That was why he hit hard from the start because he knew as Jones warmed to the fight over the first couple of rounds it was going to be a long night. Now this is my opinion only.... Jones under rated one of the biggest hitters going around at this time and payed a very dear price for it..... or they did a little deal out the back and next time they meet it will be a "VERY BIG" pay day :D
