Had no problem getting the visa, which was 1500 baht.

Waiting in line at the border on the Thailand side at about 5pm took forever. They only had two windows open, and the lines wrapped around outside the railings.

Yep go early if you are doing a visa run. You have to be at the Thai embassy by noon but I would not recommend getting there after 11am.
Get to the bridge about 8-8.30am and you wont have a problem.
You will have to wait in line at the Thai embassy no matter what time you get there and then wait an eternity to pay once you have submitted your form so just have to live with that.
Have to pick up your visa after 1pm the next day but that is pretty quick, expect to be back in Udon before 3.30pm.

You need a Visa to enter Laos. You buy it at the border at the Laos side of the bridge.

If you don't want to wait in line at the Thai Embassy liscense tour agents outside the embassy will process your paper work and deliver your passport to you the next day at one at your hotel. Completely legal I use them all the time. Cost 3000 baht plus the cost of the visa. Non "O" single entry visa 2000 baht
No man has a good enough memory to be a succesful liar.

I have tried to explain to you that this incredibly embarrassing situation has arose through no fault of my own and I am in contact with the UK daily trying to rectify it.
If there was anything more I could do I would be doing it as this is rapidly turning into the worst period of my life.
But hey thanks for making it public.

although I would say that this is not the place to air this sort of thing, I do see that you may feel aggrieved.

I will say however, Roy has been a great mate of mine, yes,he has his faults, but there again, so have we all, but lying is not as far as I'm aware, not one of them.

I know for sure, as he has tried to explain, he has a problem, (which can happen to us all), which is entirely out of his control, which as he told you he is trying to rectify.

I am going to PM you to endeavor to sort things out.

All the best'

Ralph

handsome-dane, I understood from your post that you went in a rented car. The original post was about going to Laos and you said you went there in a rented car. Maybe a different understanding of the use of the word 'there". No Ploblems. :D
