Kitchen Countertops

Post by Chriss » October 24, 2019, 3:03 pm

Can anyone tell me the standard depth (front to wall) of a kitchen countertop. Had a quick search online, found c65cm US and 60cm UK, what are they here?

Realise I can get material cut to size but this is a not expensive build so I was considering buying countertop from one of the DIY centres, unless there are reasons not to..

Our kitchen countertops are made from the thicker 24 inch floor tiles. They work and look fine.

normally kitchen countertops are 60 cm , most of the granite panels are 60 wide ,granite countertops are way cleaner as tiled surfaces with grouting ...,
when buying falang style kitchen the cabinets are mostly 56-58cm deep with countertop 2cm -4cm bigger... ;)

The thicker, about a half inch thick 24 inch tiles, use no grout. They have sharp edges and corners and don't stain. My condo has marble or granite, I don't know which but it stains so whatever material it is must be somewhat porous. Bleach or acid bathroom cleaner doesn't remove the stains.

That's exactly what I was after, thank you sir. I'm in the planning stage, didn't plan very well when I built the outdoor kitchen, the (concrete and tile) work surface ended up 78cm's deep.

for those who want to install fe a uv water filter under the sink do not forget your electric connection there ...
@ glalt , tiles with no grouting ,even very close together will not be 100% clean/closed , enough space for ants to come trough lured by everything that is stuck in between....,and granite rarely get stains, marble however is very porous and will get stains quickly , try baking soda to draw out the stains , maybe works ... ;)

I'll give the baking soda a try, nothing else has worked. I seldom use the condo and I try to cleans everything well when I am leaving. Amazingly enough I have no ant problems there. I'd guess that removing all food sources keeps them away.

Hi Chriss

630 mm deep (from the face of splash back or wall tile to the front edge of your counter top, for Thai's

I also set my Height (top of floor tile to the top of counter top) at 900 mm

Also used Granite for the counter top - Thai's can't destroy it. Granite is not that much more expensive than the Laminate or Formica tops these days, if you source the Granite yourself. Also best to choose a granite of a darker/mixed stone color for Thai "use and abuse" \:D/ \:D/ Stay away from Marble tops, or you will regret it later on. :-k

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
