Guess who is calling the kettle black?

Re: NATO
Erdogan's in a misogynist muddle. When he says “Scandinavian countries are guesthouses for terrorist organizations. ...They are even members of the parliament in some countries” he means that both countries have female heads of state. Remember how he treated Ursula von der Leyen during an EU meeting his country hosted?

ERdogan will cut a deal with Sweden and Finland. What exactly he'll get is up in the air but will likely have those countries expelling anby PKK radicals and allowing some military gear to be sold to Turkey.

Re: NATO
Turkish-made drones a popular purchase
As usual when it comes to arms shipments, Turkey has not commented on the matter. The world often only learns of the existence of these drones from media reports, if they are used in combat or if the recipient country talks about it.
The Bayraktar TB2 was developed and produced by a Turkish company, Baykar Technology. The business belongs to two brothers and was first founded in 1986. Over that time it has grown to become a giant of Turkish arms manufacturing, belonging to the Bayraktar family. The son-in-law of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Selcuk Bayraktar, is the company's chief technology officer.
According to the company itself, it grew its exports sevenfold between 2006 and 2021. Media reports say the TB2 has brought business orders from 16 countries, including Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Tunisia, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Poland was the first NATO member to purchase the drone last year, adding 24 to its arsenal.

Re: NATO
Yes, he'll get his horse trade but let's see how quickly the UN, EU drop the hot potato of encouraging Ankara to legitimize a Kurdish state inside Turkey. Like most populist leaders gone autocratic, Erdogan needs a Boogeyman so he can make restrictive and invasive laws as he claims to be protecting the country. The PKK are his.
I was reading how Iraq's patience with their Kurdish enclave has also worn thin as they seek to repeal Erbil's oil revenue autonomy as unconstitutional.

Sweden as part of Nato has only one protagonist, Russia. A country that has been unable to defeat tiny Ukraine after 700 days is in no position to start a war with the Western world.
Sorry guys, WWIII ain't gunna happen because a country with a population of 10M is going to dramatically upset the balance of power.

Erdogan likely got his F16 upgrade kits approved privately although Congress has yet to put their stamp of approval on it. Swidesh represntatives are going to chat with Orban in Hungary. Wanna bet that Hungary wants their 14 leased Saab Gripens given to them gratis and perhaps some more of them in the bargain. Add to that some good CV90 IFV's and perhaps a few other good Swedish weapons systems and Orban will grant his approval.
As for WW3 over NATO accesions fugghataboutit.. Putin has lost the whole reason behind his Special MIlitary Operation which was, aside from the "crush the Nazis BS", all about preventing NATO expansion.. Ooops... Add to that the daily grinding down of the Russian Army and other military assets.. What happened to that IL-76 near the Russian border today.. Yeah the one supposdly carrying S-300 missiles and over 60 pax.. Ba-bah-boom. I guess the Ukes have moved Patriots up close to the border to put a hurt on any Russian aircraft daring to come within range..
Oryx Blog has the Russians down as of today; 14081, of which: destroyed: 9834, damaged: 640, abandoned: 675, captured: 2932. That's total Tanks, IFV's Arty and other armored vehicles. Oryx posts ONLY if they have video or photo evidence.. https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/a ... pment.html

There's no doubt the horse trade is in. Sweden hasn't suddenly incarcerated or deported their sizeable Kurdish diaspora. Orban's a bit of the devil you know these days and strongmen do like their toys. Makes them look...strong.FrazeeDK wrote: ↑January 24, 2024, 6:07 pmErdogan likely got his F16 upgrade kits approved privately although Congress has yet to put their stamp of approval on it. So Vlad's just going to walk away, tail between the legs? Oops, my bad, sorry?
Not a chance. He's got a bigger "meat grinder" for a start. Not having a soul or conscience is an added bonus. The Russians have never been big on bringing all the bodies home. Ever. They're different. Always have been and always will be.

Re: NATO
Sweden joining NATO is not just about population nor is it their military but their COASTLINE m being directly opposite those ex- USSR countries now fiercely independent ,should give unprecendented access to be able to monitor those countries and politically be a thorn in Russias side as well as providing clear access for any MILITARY reaction to any plans Russia may have

I am not sure too many Ukrainians would agree that Russia ceased fighting Ukraine 33 weeks into the conflict, the war devastation in Ukraine has been immense, the fact that there has been insignificant territorial gains by Russia is dwarfed by the damage inflicted by Vlad.
As for balance of power, relative size of power balance is always a factor. A message that Australia took to heart decades ago, moving from a population of less than 10M post WWII to 26M now, moving from insignificance to a regional power. Obviously being a developed nation was a huge factor, but the 'Populate or Perish' policy adopted changed Australia's sphere of influence.
Russia, China, India the USA ditto. The big players in Europe being Germany and France for the same reason

Well done Australia, but I assume the 10 million you mentioned earlier is Sweden's population; the amount of people that Sweden brings to the NATO alliance's collective population? I don't see how 10 million Swedes can be summarily dismissed as being insignificant to this European "relative size of power balance" while the extra 16 million that Australia spawned in the post-war years apparently worked wonders for them.
There's no consistent correlation between size of a nations' population and the strength of that nations' sphere of influence. Even when you start adding up their individual military strengths, there's no extrapolated rule-of-thumb that dictates their place or "who wears the pants" in the regional or global house. What is obvious though, regarding the subject under discussion, the USA both in population and military strength, is 'over there' and handily well-distanced from most all the world's conflict zones. A bit like Australia, for that matter. Damn you geography!
