Re: Russia
well the EU has done it and decided to cut russian oil, of course russia has been upping its sales on the world market and making even more money. it will be interesting to see where the oil price will head today. $118 per barrel at the moment. the sanctions so far have cost the west , and its going to get a lot more painful

SINGAPORE, May 31 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Tuesday after EU agreed to slash oil imports from Russia by the end of 2022, fuelling worries of a tighter market already strained for supply amid rising demand ahead of peak U.S. and European summer driving season.
Brent crude futures for July, which expires on Tuesday, gained 33 cents to $122 a barrel at 0054 GMT. The more active August contract rose 33 cents to $117.93.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were trading at $117.31 a barrel, up $2.24 from Friday's close. There was no settlement on Monday due to a U.S. public holiday.

the problem with the markets is the short term outlook, remember even if the conflict ends russias oil wont be back in a hurry, strategically the only winner will be american oil companies

Putin still seems to be alive despite the internet rumours to the contrary.

Re: Russia
Yip, what a contradiction in actions. Cut back by a percentage only, oil and gas from Russia, but still providing Billions to them and at the same time sending arms and aid to Ukraine. Really don't know what's worse, prolonging the bloodshed or financing the aggressor.papafarang wrote: ↑May 31, 2022, 10:25 amwell the EU has done it and decided to cut russian oil, of course russia has been upping its sales on the world market and making even more money. it will be interesting to see where the oil price will head today. $118 per barrel at the moment. the sanctions so far have cost the west , and its going to get a lot more painful

I'm not a glutton for punishment, but I'd be willing to give up some of life's necessities to see Putin come out the loser in this war. EU countries are probably going to have to make many more sacrifices than we'll ever do in Thailand.....or the US. I don't think all the sanction prior to 2022 amount to much compared to what's happening since the Ukraine conflict started. Were it not for the 'EU' I doubt more than a small handful of European countries would have banded together against Russia.

Parrot, it took a long time for the EU to start to make up its mind about what to do.parrot wrote: ↑May 31, 2022, 4:35 pmI'm not a glutton for punishment, but I'd be willing to give up some of life's necessities to see Putin come out the loser in this war. Weeks previously the USA and the UK were sending support to Ukraine.
Unfortunately France and Germany were more worried about the consequences to their respective economies rather than what Poo Tin was actually doing to a Sovereign Nation.
Usual nonsense from a 27 Nation conglomerate, with even now Hungary sticking the middle finger up.
How long do you think Ukraine is going to last while the EU and the UK (unfortunately) are still funding Russia by buying their products.
Did we still trade with Germany in 1939 after war was declared? My guess NO.
Ukraine will lose, they cannot sustain the losses in manpower that Russia can do. Sad but true.

i don't know, but the best guess is russia is looking at a twenty year war, their planning for it. they've seen what happened to the western wars . all this happiness is a bit sickening, ukrainians are dying. meanwhile arms dealers make the most of itAlexO wrote: ↑May 31, 2022, 5:26 pmParrot, it took a long time for the EU to start to make up its mind about what to do.parrot wrote: ↑May 31, 2022, 4:35 pmI'm not a glutton for punishment, but I'd be willing to give up some of life's necessities to see Putin come out the loser in this war. With this latest export freeze, Putin's plan to wipe out Britain's fish and chip business during Jubilee year is no longer a secret.

Don't you guys have halibut, haddock and cod?

Re: Russia
Despite the rancor over EU fishing rights in a notionally post-Brexit world, they probably still have. However, like their gas, Russian fish were cheaper. Probably some mandarin in the Tory Trade & Industry Ministry decided it was much easier/quicker/cheaper to buy Russian white fish than do anything meaningful to help the British fishing industry recover.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑June 17, 2022, 9:42 ampapafarang wrote: ↑June 3, 2022, 7:23 ami was reading the other day that the uk government was actually thinking about putting a 35% tariff on russian white fish, that would be an end to our fish and chips.tamada wrote: ↑June 3, 2022, 5:35 amWith this latest export freeze, Putin's plan to wipe out Britain's fish and chip business during Jubilee year is no longer a secret.
