The lethal reality of the virus eventually brings lunatic politicians more into line.

Trump just doesn't get the politics. He can't win in November without the US "winning" in its struggle against the virus. As the death toll mounts public anxiety only increases. The US needs a national leader who takes the science on board.

Biden will face a big challenge dealing with other Trump like lunatic US politicians. Perhaps the carnage will be so great by then many of them will be more public health focused and open to some national leadership.

What is very clear now, on this forum, there is no middle ground. you are pro-trump or you are not. Not anybody sitting on the fence, and willing to jump left or right. However, the real votes in in the USA.

An interesting article

We should make sure we do not make beavers extinct, young cats are also on this list as protected species

Going back to the title of the OP , America noi longer coming apart at the seams. That is because America is so divided often along idiotic partisan lines which bear no resemblance even bothering to take account of the needs of the people that many Americans I am sure are looking at their so-called leaders and wonder why, how and how long they will be there causing untold damage to the fabric of the American way of life.

So it is no longer coming apart it is irreversibly broken in my book.

The divide is now enormous.

I feel uncomfortable when I see civic buildings ugly with graffiti. Vandalism is not pretty, but what has driven these people to civil disobedient.

America is a really sad broken country.

Trump is not a healer, he is one nasty SOB provocateur. Those that support his actions are truly in the ranks of the deplorably. This is a failed attempt to drain the swamp, the swamp is deeper, has more vicious alligators and has become more toxic

Black Power fists and "taking the knee" are so yesterday. Walking away during the national anthem? Now that takes balls... and not just basketballs. Well played ladies.

Then, a naked woman appeared. She walked out to the intersection in front of where police were standing. Killen said she was wearing only a face mask and a stocking cap while she was facing the police. She paced the area near the crosswalk. She laid down, kicking up her feet. She did ballet poses. “Everyone seemed surprised and kind of astounded,” Killen said.
There's a bit of a butt crack or as the Thais say a smile in the first link. You were warned. ;)

And then Kristof in The New York Times:
An iconic moment came when a woman known as Naked Athena confronted the troops while wearing only a hat and face mask. Her naked vulnerability as armed troops fired pepper balls at her feet underscored the absurdity of Trump’s narrative that he is “protecting” anything.

Beware. What you’re seeing in Portland may be coming to other cities. After all, Trump’s verdict on the troops: “In Portland, they’ve done a fantastic job.”

Trump is a desperate man. The American state is being turned on Americans. Four more years of this? Where would that take the US?

IMO all this grumpf in USA has been festering for many years. Its always been there, and was bound to come out. All it needed was the right touch paper, and the cop and George did that..It was there in LA decades back, and Trump wasnt in charge then..Nah, there is a seat of resentment lingering there, against the Haves and Havenots I believe..There be alot of people that think Trump is normal and doing a great job..He is not the only one in America that thinks like him..The question in my eyes is, does the Havenots want to go back to the way it was and vote Biden..My answer is No.

The pandemic and the BLM movement could have happened on any President's watch so there's no sense in attaching any blame on Trump. Having said that, I doubt history will write up Trump as a "normal" guy who did his best. He has only engineered the biggest bipartisan rift in living memory and largely ignored the science and advice.

Have the Havenots gotten much benefit under Trump? Has their quality of life improved? Has their overall income increased? Has their ability to become a Have been enhanced any?

Another four years of justifying the Trump's administration's misteps with, "but Obama" or "but Hillary" and now, "but Biden"?

Every nation has the problem between the Havea and Havenots as you put it. In the UK not that long ago was always resentment about the Nobility and the landed gentry , but overtime those divides have been lessened and problems ironed out , some still linger but as they say that is life . Two world wars ironed out many divisions and we all moved on, sadly in America it can be said many have not moved on and want the old Status Quo renewed and upheld, assisted in this case by a man whose only claim top fame was that he was wealthy but N OT by his abilities but by his fathers. So he sowed the seeds of division and this is the outcome , when he could have done so much more to mitigate the situation .
His attitude is and has always been divided I rule . A sad indictment of the American electoral process and sadder indictment of the intelligence and attitude of the American people I fear.

The US has already come at it from the opposite direction - with special titles such as Billy-Bob and Mary-Lou to identify the un-elite. And all of them united, and instantly recognisable by their prized red MAGA caps.

To answer that question, you might want to ask the democratic mayors of cities such as Chicago, New York, Seattle, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, Portland et al how the poor have fared under their watch. In addition, it might be useful to learn what steps these civic leaders have taken to reduce gang violence in the racialized sections of their cities.

^ Ah yes... the "but the Democrats" deflection (again).

Meanwhile, back in the 'better dead than red', 100% MAGA heartlands, are Bubba and Karen doing any better? Like biggly? Yuge even?

Thought the gentleman made a perfectly valid point. No need to show how ignorant most left wing socialists are to the utter failure of Marxist principles. Cuba, Russia, China and many more that can be added to the list. Please just give us just one example of auld Karls theory being a success.

You can thank Trump if the democrats prevail.
I agree. This election is a referendum on Trump. He's either going to win or lose, pretty much regardless of who the Democratic candidate was going to be. Same as last time, -- I don't think that Trump won so much as Hillary lost.
You pretty much covered all the options there didn't you "He is either going to win or lose" Can I get a bet on that one. Donald WON, Hilary LOST, fact. Or Hilary nearly won, sounds better if your a Democrat.

Sadly it is the blinkered partisan viewpoint of many Americans that seem unable to `logically see problems, always follow the Party Line , when it comes to law makers even worse, bugger the public , if this is the line we will follow it blindly no matter what . Now we have Federal Law Enforcers being forced on mainly Dempo0crat Governed States, why because the Moronic Republican President wants it , for no other reason, just looking forward to another 4 years, bugger the people . Abouit time Law makers in the House and Senate, followed their own minds.
