Basically agree with Mick on this one (apologies for the embarrassment Mick).

Frankly I get really pissed off with ageist BS, I have had to battle this off and on for many years in my profession with 30 somethings looking at me if I am some kind of dinosaur. That is until they get in the ---- on a project and seek some advice.

Age means nothing, if you keep up to date, upskill where needed and are still in full possession, then it does not matter a fig what age you are.

None taken.
It was only a matter of time when we would agree on something.
Just took a while

Obama was president for eight years. Why didn't she retire then?
Maybe because the Republican controlled Senate sat on Obama's last SC nominee until his term was over? This based on their postulation that Presidential nominee's don't count in an election year.

"Two years later, in May 2019, Senator McConnell was asked what he would do if a Supreme Court justice were to die in 2020, an election year. He stated that the Senate would fill such a vacancy, then smiled."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrick_G ... nomination

She probably wanted to retire but could see the way the wind was blowing. Now she remains an insightful legal mind, physically frail but overwhelmingly huge thorn in your butt.

If only that were true. I think she is a doddering old crone and only impedes important decisions.

When you go to the doctor, who do you want to see, the youngest, or oldest?
Oldest for me, more experience.
Mick
Interesting. I'd avoid the oldest like the plague. The youngest wouldn't be my first choice as there are heaps between the two extremes. Professional people don't hit their peaks in their twilight years.

Speak for yourself, that is a generalization. What is too often the case is ageist discrimination blocks their careers. My career was reinvigorated in my late 60's and going stronger than ever in my 70's

Yeah, if you want an antibiotic for a common infection, sure.
But if you've got something strange going on, as Papafarang did recently, (in another post here),
go see the old doctor.
Chances are, he's seen it, or heard it before, and can diagnose quickly. (I know from experience)
Out the door you go, happy patient.

Young doctors can F@ck you around for ages, while their learning their craft.

Remember, it's called a practice, coz they practice, you're a patient, coz you gotta be patient while they practice.

But, your health, suit yourself.
Mick

I’m just happy to see any doctor of any age back in the U.K. when I need one.
By the time I’ve got through the call waiting system & fought the receptionist who’s only qualification is saying no you can’t see a doctor, I couldn’t care less if the doctor has only just left secondary school or has been hauled out of the old people’s home

Edit: just noticed this is the US Presidential election odds thread. How on earth did it get onto doctors ages?

I think it had something to do with Naranjito and the Dem presidential hopefuls resembling the cast of Cocoon.

On the betfair exchange

Donald Trump $2.08
Joe Biden. $2.42

If you fancy an outsider

Hilary Clinton 70-1
Michelle Obama. 270-1
Ivanka Trump. 430-1
I see Hilary is now 3rd favorite @ 42-1 on the betfair exchange

Trump's polling continues to look bleak. He hardly rallied Chinese Americans this week. Meanwhile the punters' money lines up behind Trump.

This election is very different from the last one.

Opinion polls have The Orange way behind. I think what we are seeing is the enthusiasm of Trump believers as more like a religious fervor, there is no intellectual element to a Trumpster, just blind faith, so they back him 100%

Biden supporters are quieter, come Nov 3, they will vote for him, but they are not the over-the-top MAGA, MAGA, MAGA enthusiasts that get off on Trump the messiah. I suspect the quiet but deadly voters will rule the day, no BS rallies, but a conviction on voting day, they see him as Trump the messier.
