That seems to be a very good investment considering that the British royals, especially the Queen , bring in billions in tourism $.

Buckingham Palace refurbishment for free council housing to cost £369m + 40 to 45 million to the Windsors for social security payments equals net loss of 9 to 14 million to the British tax payer.

<< Buckingham Palace refurbishment >> That s not a single year expense, it s an investment to be amortized over many years, just like if you spend $50 000.00 to renovate your house.., or better consider it as a mortgage to be paid over a 20-30 year period. I know people who go to London to see the ROYALS...

Actually the money comes from the sovereign grant and the grant jumped from 15% to 25% of Crown Estate profits, in order to pay for Buckingham Palace renovations. This years grant is 80 million pounds a substantial increase on previous years. The arrangement hasn't always been without snarls. The grant came under review in 2015 and again in 2018, essentially because the queen was making too much money. I know people who go to London to not see the ROYALS...

2.4 million is a lot for upgrading a minor royal's house. It's really taking the piss; particularly given the cuts in public services that have been happening in Blighty over the last decade.
