FBI Crime Stats - 2018

Over 5 times more people killed with cutting instruments (including knives) than were killed with rifles.

Killed by rifle (ALL types/styles) - 297
Killed with variations of knives - 1,515

This data shows an INCREASE in the gap from 2017, when the gap was only 4x as large. In other words, there has been a gravitation more toward knives. It also shows a REDUCTION in the use of rifles from the previous year.

Even hammers and clubs were used more often than rifles in 2018.

If only semi-automatic rifles were tracked, and not ALL rifles, the gap would have been even larger. In other words, semi-automatic rifles are not the killing machines that the anti-gun crowd would have the public believe. Knives and hammers are used more often.

The statistics do NOT reflect whether or not the victim was committing a crime or the use of the weapon was for self defense.

Evil doesn't need a firearm.

Murders in USA for 2018 were 15498
Big difference to what numbers you have used to prove nothing

The numbers prove that a person intent upon murdering someone does not need a scary looking rifle to kill people. Hammers and knives are just as effective and easier to obtain by anyone who wants one. No one is required to go through a background check to buy a knife or hammer.

If your numbers are correct, 15,500 homicides by all methods, reflects a rate of 0.0048% among 320 million people. 48 homicides per million. 4.8 homicides per 100,000.

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/mur ... untry.html

The US ranks 111 out of 216 countries in the world in homicide rate according to the data in the above link. Even lower than Thailand,

My numbers and your numbers both prove quite a bit.

.

You're using 2 different sets of data now.

15,400+ homicides in the US was your first claim.

Your list of countries now reflects a homicide number of 17,400+ in the US. (5.35 homicides per 100,000 from 329 million population). I don't know the sources of your data, but it really doesn't matter. Whether you remain consistent or use 7 different sources of data, hammers and knives are still responsible for more homicides than scary looking rifles. My original point.

Cities are extremely violent in America and are the source of the majority of homicides. Many US cities have homicide rates per 100,000 that are higher than many countries. I am not arguing that at all. I know very well where the problems are that drive up the US homicide rate. Here are the FBI stats by city per 100,000 population from 2018.

FBI Data.jpg

El Salvador 82.84
ST. LOUIS USA 60.9
Honduras 56.52
BALTIMORE USA 51.0
United States Virgin Islands 49.26 104,578
Jamaica 47.01 2,948,279
Lesotho 41.25 2,125,268
DETROIT USA 38.9
Belize 37.60 390,353
NEW ORLEANS USA 37.1
Saint Vincent And The Grenadines 36.46
Saint Kitts And Nevis 34.23
South Africa 33.97
Trinidad And Tobago 30.88
Brazil 29.53
MEMPHIS USA 28.5
KANSAS CITY USA 27.8
Guatemala 27.26

Six US cities in the top 18 in the world.

And here are cities lower than the US average.

The FBI numbers are my source and fully make my original point.

Gun violence in the United States results in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries annually.[5] In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries (23.2 injuries per 100,000 persons),[6][7] and 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms" (10.6 deaths per 100,000 persons).[8] These deaths included 21,175 suicides,[8] 11,208 homicides,[9] 505 deaths due to accidental or negligent discharge of a firearm, and 281 deaths due to firearms use with "undetermined intent".[8] In 2017, gun deaths reached their highest level since 1968 with 39,773 deaths by firearm, of which 23,854 were by suicide and 14,542 were homicides.[10] The rate of firearm deaths per 100,000 people rose from 10.3 per 100,000 in 1999 to 12 per 100,000 in 2017, with 109 people dying per day.[10] The ownership and control of guns are among the most widely debated issues in the country.

In 2012, there were 8,855 total firearm-related homicides in the United States, with 6,371 of those attributed to handguns.[11] In 2012, 64% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides.[12] In 2010, there were 19,392 firearm-related suicides, and 11,078 firearm-related homicides in the U.S.[13] In 2010, 358 murders were reported involving a rifle while 6,009 were reported involving a handgun; another 1,939 were reported with an unspecified type of firearm.[14]

About 1.4 million people have died from firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011. This number includes all deaths resulting from a firearm, including suicides, homicides, and accidents.[15]

Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the U.S. gun-related homicide rate is 25 times higher.[16] Although it has half the population of the other 22 nations combined, the U.S. had 82 percent of all gun deaths, 90 percent of all women killed with guns, 91 percent of children under 14 and 92 percent of young people between ages 15 and 24 killed with guns.[16]

Gun violence against other persons is most common in poor urban areas and frequently associated with gang violence, often involving male juveniles or young adult males.[17][18] Although mass shootings are covered extensively in the media, mass shootings in the United States account for only a small fraction of gun-related deaths.[19] School shootings are described as a "uniquely American crisis", according to The Washington Post in 2018.[20] Kids at U.S. schools have active shooter drills.[21] According to USA Today, in 2019 “about 95% of public schools now have students and teachers practice huddling in silence, hiding from an imaginary gunman.”[21]

By the LS found the article about rifles verses blades and hammers FBI

On 16 October 2017, Breitbart.com posted a story reporting that according to 2016 crime statistics published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, more people are murdered with knives or by beaten to death than with rifles:

According to FBI: UCR Table 12, there were approximately 374 people shot and killed with rifles of any kind. There were 1,604 people killed with “knives or cutting instruments.”

Table 12 also shows that more people were killed via the use of “hands, fists, feet, etc.,” than were killed by rifles of any kind. In fact, the tally shows that the death numbers were not even close. While approximately 374 people were shot and killed with rifles, roughly 656 people were beaten to death with “hands, fists, feet, etc.”

(The article failed to mention that in thousands of cases, the type of firearm used was not specified or reported to the FBI.)

A bit further down same story is this

According to FBI data for 2016, 11,004 of the 15,070 murders in the United States were committed with firearms. Handguns were the most common type of firearm used in 7,105 cases. In 3,263 cases, the type of gun was not reported to the FBI or was listed as “other” while in 903 instances, the weapon was not identified or was listed as “other.”

It’s unlikely that a total of 374 murders in the U.S. were committed with rifles in 2016, given the fact that in more than 4,000 cases the weapon or type of gun was not specified in the UCR. What is clear from the figures, however, is that handguns are by far the most-used murder weapon, probably because they are easier to transport and conceal. Phillip Cook, Terry Sanford Professor Emeritus of Public Policy Studies at Duke University, told us:

[H]andguns are used far more often to kill people than are rifles. Almost all homicides occur away from the perpetrators’ place of residence, suggesting that the gun had to be transported. Handguns are more convenient to carry and to deploy than are rifles

Mireya Orta of Santa Clara murdered a man using her Audi A5 sedan. She hit two people with her car and tried to hit another man nearby. During her rampage, she "intentionally reversed and drove back and forth over the man’s body multiple times." This proved fatal.

The woman was eventually stopped when police units boxed her in and arrested her.

Names of victims and motive have not been released.

*** Cold Case - 16 years and finally an arrest ***

St. Louis County prosecutors have charged the father with the disappearance of his disabled son, who was 9 years old at the time of his disappearance.

Dawan Ferguson, 46, was charged with first degree murder and is being held without bail.

The body of the son was never found, but the indictment lists a failure on the part of the father to provide necessary medication to his son. Ferguson, from a payphone, reported that a carjacker took his vehicle with his son inside the vehicle. The vehicle was found empty 5 miles from the payphone.

No new evidence has been revealed to the media.

Go to the source: FBI

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/20 ... ble-11.xls

It's all laid out with every method used for homicide. Rifles and shotguns and handguns and other weapons are clearly listed across the top of the data chart. There is a category for unknown type of firearm, but it's unknown.

The link verifies the information I provided regarding hammers and knives vs rifles.

Nice how stories use cherry picked stats to suit their ideal result or outcome to present as facts
Sound familiar
So in your post stating only 297 rifle deaths compared to 1515 hammer knife deaths just left out all the other firearm deaths for 2016 being 37200 this total includes murders, mistakes and suicide
Have a nice evening

So in your post stating only 297 rifle deaths compared to 1515 hammer knife deaths just left out all the other firearm deaths for 2016 being 37200 this total includes murders, mistakes and suicide
Have a nice evening
"Other guns or guns not stated" are NOT rifles. The source was provided from the beginning. The issue was homicides, not any other cause of death.

FBI - Rifles - Hammers and Knives - Homicides.

If you want to look for other stuff, up to you. Everything specifically regarding my post was provided.

You have a nice evening too.

*** UPDATE on French Police Stabbed ***

It has been verified that he is an employee of the French Police and worked at headquarters. He has been described as a recent convert to Islam. It is also being reported now that he was shot and killed.

A motive has still not been released, and they are investigating the possibility of a terror link.
*** FURTHER UPDATE ***

After the recent Muslim convert was shot dead, police then raided his home and arrested his wife. Evidence was found on his computer that links him to a radical Islamist group. His wife is still in custody and cooperating.

New charges by the anti-terror prosecutors include “assassination of a public servant in relation to a terrorist enterprise, attempted assassination of a public servant in relation to a terrorist enterprise, and conspiracy in terrorism.”

The investigation continues.
