A French aviation buff and inventor failed on Thursday in his attempt to cross the English Channel on a homemade "flyboard."

After careful preparations, Franky Zapata took off from the French coastal town of Sangatte fastened to the small flying platform he designed. From afar, it looked like he was skateboarding on the sky.

But as he descended for a refueling stop about halfway through, he encountered a "problem," said spokeswoman Anna Venekas.

She told The Associated Press that "the flight is cancelled" and that Zapata "is doing fine."

She would not give further details.

Awesome achievement by an adventurous French man. In 10 years there might be lots of "illegals" trying to get to Blighty in this way.

Remind me know, do hoverboards fly over walls? Perhaps the don needs to build a second wall 20 miles inside US to catch the hovermex

I agree again . In ten years when Britain is free and prospering , whilst the E U is still trying to stem the flood of disgruntled members .
It makes perfect sense that more will choose to settle in the U K . Including French, Italians , Greeks , Spanish .
Need i go on . =;

You Poms are missing the boat, excuse the pun, get in early now and start a business hiring the units on the link.
One way or return hire.
There is potential for millions of trips. Just strap on a safety vest and an additional battery.

Is it just me or is anyone else picturing a sky filled with illegal aliens? Might be popular with smugglers and suicidal terrorists too. Likely China has already stolen the design and specs and is gearing up for production. LOL
