I've been reading about a memo that supposedly outlined a promise from May to Merkel that May would not allow a Hard Brexit as a favor to Merkel.

Nothing being reported . . . yet. This news might create some daylight.

we don't owe Germany anything.. for far too long they benefited at the expense of others within the EU. It's about time we look after our own interests for once, there is nothing stopping them offering us a trade deal we can't refuse which still delivers on brexit and sets us free.

I agree with you, and it is a prime reason why socialism on any scale never works. No one starts out equal, and not everyone is treated equally, and there are still "haves" and "have nots". Let people and countries make their own way in the world.

Dr. Thomas Sowell made a statement the other day about socialism that made so much sense:
No one has figured out why siblings from the same parents can't create equal achievements, so how in the world will it happen with people who are totally unrelated from different parents.

There will always be inequality in skills, creativity, motivation and other characteristics. The government can't fix that, and all the governments in the EU can't create that Utopia either.

You're a class act, Izzie. Can't go wrong doing your research from the Express.

Germany seems to have learned pretty well over the past 60 years. Certainly left Little Britain in its wake. 😁

I had never seen that quote before, but I must say not only do I agree with it but would add, neither does education if my experience is anything to go by.During my entire education, from grammar school, college and university, during which time there must have been way over a hundred fellow students of both sexes and multi nationalities sitting alongside receiving the same tutoring as I , yet as time has shown, created a vast difference how we all turned out .
Whilst most like me have disappeared into the oblivion of time there are a few that have made a name for themselves in various ways, these range from one who became a prominent government minister, another a big film star, a couple of broadcasters regularly seen on our screens, a sportsman, down to the black sheep doing a long prison stretch. No names, no pack drill as the saying goes, but they all started with roughly the same backgrounds, were subjected to the same education, including the same preducies , normal at the time, yet all turned out, the finished object, so different .
So how can we all be equal in any way, just look nearer home, this forum, you don't have to be an Einstein to see the obvious differences between us, the most obvious being the cultural one created by our nationality, will any of us really understand "The Thai WAy", I don;t think so, but we can adjust and do our best to accept it, that must be the only way forward when ever we encounter these problems or misunderstandings in our life .We are all individuals, accept that, be proud of it, live our own idea of life, enjoy it, but accept the right of others to do so too .

Why is that do you think Jack . Could it be that they never paid any WW2 debts . Could it be they were spoon fed by the allies for years after said war .
Could it be that they have never paid their fair share into NATO and the defense of their country .
Could it be that they have manipulated the E U since its inception to their advantage .
Just curious .

got nothing to do with socialism , Dr Tomas sowell talking out his ass, put two Brainiac's together and there's no guarantee their kid won't end up as a gym teacher, on the other hand a marriage between a couple of rednecks don't mean their child can't become a brain surgeon . different teachers at school, different choices ,different interests. where socialism comes into it I do not know

Germany may not crumble but the big EU socialist experiment is doomed.

Excellent analysis, OG. I agree.

Education shows those stark differences more than anything else. Whether it's 30 high school students in a classroom in rural America with everyone from the same socio-economic background, or it's 30 in a private school in Boston, achievement will be different among them all.

With the income inequality issue being pushed by LIBs and socialists, exposing this component of their Utopian myth as unachievable is important to convicting their philosophy.

Enjoy the interview.

I don't agree with him. Consider the nature vs. nurture argument. With identical twins, the "nature" part is the same. So where's the difference? In the "nurture." Identical twins don't have precisely the same life experience. And those very small differences, getting larger as they grow, are what makes them different.

I think that's what Sowell is saying.

Siblings even from the same families and same parents rarely have similar achievements, motivations, creativity, skills, etc.

No, but the process has started. Ask that question in 2 or 3 years, will be the same for France.

How does this process work? What's driving it? Having to prop up other European countries without the UK helping? I can't see less trade with the UK causing this demise. Perhaps you can?
