A new senate faces some old prohibitions

Post by tamada » May 1, 2024, 11:23 am

And this is before they even get elected!

The Thai Electoral Commission has apparently ruled that candidates for the new Senate cannot use any sort of media to 'advertise' their candidacy. A former senator has petitioned the Central Administrative Court to overrule the EC's dictate.

Since the three-tier senatorial election process sees senatorial candidates choosing their own from among their fellow candidates, why has the EC stuck its oar in this water?

The EC does not want the water to be stirred up. They would prefer the same steady oarsmen at the helm to keep their waters calm.
