Elephant Pants

Post by mak » February 7, 2024, 11:35 am

A directive to halt the importation of Chinese elephant-patterned trousers has been issued by the Thai Customs Department, following the registration of the pattern’s copyright, according to statements from Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on Monday.

Probably should have been done far earlier - but on "good taste" grounds, rather than copyright. 8)

The Thai Rath channel 32 was displaying the pants made in various colours in Korat. The chocolate brown ones with cats instead of elephants were nice. I think Korat has some association with cats via their soccer team.

Anybody here wear them? I am a denim shorts guy myself, are these pants cool on a hot day, not cool.in a fashion sense, but body temperature cool.
I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

De rigueur outerwear for the Friday CCW and FES meetings.

They are a tad more fashionable than the ubiquitous fisherman pants of my long-gone youthful times in Thailand. Easier to tie the waist and not have them fall down too.

However, both are offset perfectly by a pair of brightly colored Crocs, preferably fake ones.

...and socks. That right noos?

Lopburi is producing their own version of elephant pants. As Channel 33 showed this morning the city, which is famous for its monkeys in the central part of Lopburi, are selling 'monkey pants' . Baby monkeys (ling) patterns replace the elephants as do the kittens in Khorat.

And now Khon Kaen has come up with 'Dinosaur pants'.

I remember Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia also sold the elephant pants at least 8-10 years ago. Initially, the locals did not wear them, but they were popular with tourists. It seems that they are starting to become more popular with the local population too. Women seem to wear them more than men.
