Travel payouts for voters

A Senate committee has proposed that voters be given 500 baht each in travel expenses in the hope it will encourage turnout and help combat vote-buying in the coming general election.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/po ... for-voters

So election year 2023 will be a bonus one for the great unwashed who will get paid to go and sell their votes.

Win win.

Not too much different to UK then
I remember when I was a kid (mid sixties) a flash limo, might have been a Bentley or similar pulled up outside our house and dad ushered me and mum out the door and into it. We went to the polling station where mum & dad cast their votes then got another posh ride home. Turns out it was laid on by the Tory candidate who was under the impression dad was going to vote for him (he failed to mention he was a shop steward at the biggest factory in the area :-" )

Transporting voters by offering trans[prt is NOT new and always been looked upon as generrous, never has transport been offered becauser you were expected to vote one way or the other.
Here however money will not be well spent, rather wasted on frivolous expense that bears no relation to voting at all

With respect, it does look like your dear old dad was part of the problem.

Being a shop steward I mean.

Seems a bit out dated but anyone wishing to vote here has to do so in the province in which they were born or where their Tabien ban ID card is listed..not where they work or reside so many will have to travel lets say from Bkk to many home towns and villages around Isan hence the payment and also an extra holiday from the work place to go and vote...

Alcohol bans are in place for election day and the day before (elections are usually weekends) due to the large numbers traveling.

Lots of red bill boards around Isan .. most showing a young lady who is part of quite a well known political family.

Interesting times ahead .. will it be fair without any number fudging ..lets wait n see.

I and most others would prefer there to be no such things as shop stewards or unions at all, but that would need honest bosses, so thats never going to happen.

Saw a great meme this xmas, a picture of scrooge, with the notation ..... Unions, because the likelyhood of three ghosts visiting your boss this xmas is unlikely

You're living in the past.

Employment legislation is weighted too heavily in favour of the employee nowadays.

"Dishonest" bosses? What about dishonest employees throwing a sickie, fiddling their expenses or nicking the company's stationery.

Did you never try to be a boss or was there too much hard work and sacrifice to get there?

I was a staff rep for management employees, Had to be able to see both sides of the argument and be open enough to act in the best interest of everyone.
