So the runway wasn't flooded.
the runway became impassable
At 2:19+ of the video you can see the taxiways are flooded. That's when the pilot went to full power and aborted the landing. Why Traffic Control gave the go ahead to land in the first pace is another question.
That YouTube is three years old.

For arguments sake, it shows wet taxiways highlighted by a low, setting sun. Maybe around 6 pm?

The Emirates flight in question landed at DMK at 9:40 pm after circling BKK for 50 minutes. So any initial landing attempt at BKK would have been in darkness some time around 8:30 pm. It wasn't reported as an aborted landing at BKK.

How's your carp doing? Last time I dropped by before I left, the poor buggers were suffocating. Does this rain make it better or worse with regard to oxygenation and the plant life within? I recall you explaining the intricacies of fish pond management in a swimming pool but then I had another Leo (or 3).

It is interesting to say that over the years and with the continual flooding re-occurring almost every year and in the same places, the Government would not have managed to deal with this.
IOt is also noted that when BKK was first envisioned Canals HAD to be dug and properly maintained to ease the flow of water and assist in stopping the floods, but naturally over the years that maintenance has gone the way of the DODO.

I was told some years back that the Thai Government did ask the DUTCH how they could manage it and then promptly ignored the advi9ce probably too expensive and in any event a Thai listening to a Foreigner what the hell do they know sort of attitude.asking and listening is not the same as actually agreeing and being sensible`.

Like many things here regarding infrastructure , sadly corruption gets in the way and jobs are half done if at all.
To my knowledge here in Udon, we have had the Railway funded for twop lines a couple of decades ago, . One laid. Big C overpass , half completed and then eventually finished due to monies being siphoned off.

They may have tightened up on many projects but many are completed but only just, example : the trousers fit as it were but the belt and braces are missing can take years for all facets to be finished .

Got a pump in there now, lost a few like . but just restocked with another 100 koi. Rain is not really an issue the amount of rain causes problems

Floods have hit Khon Kaen too. My daughter-in-law has lost her car, 4 cats and had the house flooded.

Seems i dodged a bullet re the weather yesterday .. managed to get around the flooding in the lower and western isan provinces and back to Udon , alas down there right now its getting bashed with heavy rain and will be re flooded today for sure.

The flooding i encountered yesterday was in Nong Ki HW 24 , 219 Buriram and numerous roads around Sisaket , a road total washed out between Rasi Salai and Phon Sai luckliy i got in on the travel updates and diverted... Mukkdahan , Amate Charoen , Roi-et Yatsothon MSK badly effected also.

The river in Ubon highest ever and due to burst its banks any time over the next 2 or 3 days... the 226 Sisaket to Ubon outside makro Sisa is also due to give way to the flood waters...parts of KK still flooded but i diverted around it via Yang Talas and Kranuan.

Checking the TMD rain radar we are due a fair dowsing starting today from the depression from the incoming storm Nuru that has drenched Vietnam.

WWG and wellies required if venturing out.

Just spoken to my g/f who's staying with her Mother whilst I'm in the UK. Shes been up all night clearing water out of their home north of Ubon Ratchathani. Never had to do this before! Maybe have to do the same when we get back to our home in KK next week.

Sounds bad.

Parts of Khon Kaen are in very bad shape with homes and vehicles badly damaged.
