I would assume that the convenience Stores will be along similar lines of the Tesco Express in Thailand. i.e. the smaller Store version, like 7 eleven. A sign that Laos may be starting to modernize, in some ways

Just digressing a bit on Laos, for those who may be interested,

In 2005 Laos had a GD of 2.736 Billion USD, then in 2010 it was 7.128 Billion and by 2017 it was 16.85 Billion USD, which is a 600% increase over a 12 years period. Even though it is still one of the poorest countries in the region (generally speaking) and handicapped by being landlocked, but slowly improving. Looking at its output, its economy is still heavily reliant on agricultural products such as Rice, Soy Bean, Tobacco, Sugar. What exports it has, seem to be geared around wood, electricity, clothing, coffee, corn and rubber and its main trading partners are limited to Thailand, China & Vietnam.

The French didn’t do Laos any favors, certainly didn’t leave any notable infrastructure behind when they left in 1953, unlike the Brits in Malaysia. :-k

Unfortunately the average salary for a Laotian is still only around USD 253 per month,(3,000 PA), so a long way go. The minimum wage of US 108 per month is about 60% of that of Cambodia, so that gives one some idea of how far behind the rest of the Asian Countries, Laos is. :-$ :-s

Nevertheless, it may well be a nice economical option for retirement for many years to come, if one is in relatively good health and if one can qualify to retire there. :-k

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
