May Thai national holidays

Post by BobHelm » May 4, 2016, 1:24 pm

There are a few National Thai holidays coming up..
May 5 Thursday Coronation Day National holiday
May 6 Friday Coronation Day National holiday
May 9 Monday Royal Ploughing Ceremony Day National holiday
May 20 Friday Visakha Bucha National holiday
I believe that the 5th. & 6th. are Bank holidays which will be followed by the weekend, so maybe a time to avoid the ATMs.

Friday 20th. May is, I believe, an alcohol free day, but maybe one of the local bar owners can confirm??

Didn't they just have May Day on the 2nd aswell.
I didn't realise today was a bank holiday and my money transfers have been totally stuffed and delayed.
Even though the money was sent from Singapore Wednesday. :(
Maybe Monday but who knows with the banking community anywhere in the world.

Barney I think you might be out of luck for Monday as it is also a holiday for the ploughing day or something like pretty sure the banks are closed for it.

A lot of business in Aus think there are far to many public holidays, I have not seen any where but here that have so many, granted not for every one but the government and bank employees get them all and I believe get paid for them where as the poor old slave has a holiday no 300 Baht

Royal Ploughing day is NOT a National Holiday, Visks Bucha is most certainly alcohol free .

Looked it up and I should not be critical of the bank employees and I may be in luck for the transfer of money with no bank holiday gazette for next Monday. I suppose its a long time since a bank worker had to go help plough the fields.
Shouldn't complain about the bank workers as they only get 17 bank holidays per year, but reckon it would be far less then the teachers. :-"

As per BOT website

1. Friday 1 January New Year’s Day
2. Monday 22 February Makha Bucha Day
3. Wednesday 6 April Chakri Day
4. Wednesday 13 April Songkran Festival
5. Thursday 14 April Songkran Festival
6. Friday 15 April Songkran Festival
7. Monday 2 May Substitution for National Labour Day
(Sunday 1st May)
8. Thursday 5 May Coronation Day
9. Friday 6 May Special Holiday
10. Friday 20 May Wisakha Bucha Day
11. Friday 1 July Mid Year Closing Day
12. Monday 18 July Special Holiday
13. Tuesday 19 July Asarnha Bucha Day 1/
14. Friday 12 August H.M. the Queen’s Birthday
15. Monday 24 October Substitution for Chulalongkorn Day
(Sunday 23rd October)
16. Monday 5 December H.M. an individual's Birthday
17. Monday 12 December Substitution for Constitution Day
(Saturday 10th December)

I initiated a transfer from the states TUESDAY morning which is yet to reach my tee lak. I called the NY office of Bangkok Bank and they were less than apologetic. Very poor customer service. Truth is they just don't give a damn because they know it's their way or the highway.
Every day I wake up is a good day.

it is not the fact that they have all these holidays but they are spouting about electronic banking but in most countries the clearing banks work 24/7, here everything shuts down, even when the electronic movement of cash is authorised and obviously clear then they still need a numpty in Bangkok to okay the transfer to a Thai bank. Which part of electronic is that I wonder.
Like many people over the last two months most of my monthly transfers have been completely screwed up. I am NOT a happy chappie.

Socksy they don't appear to have added the extra couple of days before and after Songkran used to travel the length of the country to be at "Home" for the festivities
Rumour that they are considering an extra days holiday this year to celebrate Thai owned Leicester City winning the league

I think those are just 'taking the piss' days Statto and unofficial holidays. I agree there could be an annual individual Power day on the date Leicester clinched the title.
