High speed Rail Link
Some one mentioned this a while ago and said its going via Udon, into Laos, and up into China
The Chinese know how to build railways fast, ( forget the HSE !! ) they completed the railway accross Libya in some amazing time !
Throw people at the task and they work ! , maybe for fear of being clean fill for the line

why not use the Hyperloop option?? Cheaper, faster... Elon Musk's proposal for an SF to LA route http://www.spacex.com/hyperloop

I'm a big fan of Elon Musk......gobs of money and not afraid to spend it on ideas he thinks are good. Lots of people write off his idea of hyperloop.....but then, a few years ago, who'd have thought a private company could build a rocket that docks with the space station?
He tested out his newest SpaceX idea at http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/15/scien ... s.html?hpw
If the high speed railroad is dependent on the SRT for its development......well, I'd guess I won't ever see its completion. Lots of dinosaurs in that ministry. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still using morse code to pass on scheduling info.

Rail Link Kunming to Vientiane
a general update on the planned Chinese built rail link from Kunming through Lao to Vientiane http://www.economist.com/blogs/banyan/2 ... cture-laos

Note the comment and the map reference on the planned Vietnamese built "high speed" rail from Vietnam to Savannakhet, Laos. A bit over a year ago there was news the State Railway of Thailand was in the surveying stage of building a link from south of Khon Khaen northeast across Maha Sarakahm, Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon provinces to NKP Province and the Mekong...I wonder what's happened with that?

Sorry im a cynic , but lots of smiles behind the scenes here with consulting fees, committees , overseas study tours, plus the normal slippage of budgets to cover facility fees

So much for any timelines.....and just yesterday, the big Do put the project on the fast track!:

yes, that rubber deal was merely a side issue.. Of course, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the Lao and Chinese broke ground today on their part of the China to Nong Khai rail link could it?? http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/asean/7 ... nstruction

You can currently fly to Kuming from BKK for ฿10,000. round trip and it takes 2 hrs. The Thai Gov. could subsidize all those Thais who want to go to China for far less then the cost of this white elephant.
High speed Rail Link
Let me get this right you catch a High speed train ( curtesy of the Thai Govt ) to Korat and then change trains to catch a slower version ( possibly dual track to NongKhai and then possibly if someone has changed the track size stay on that train to Vientianne then change again for a fast hi-speed train to China.
If they were not in charge you would not believe it would you, something out of dreams are us springs to mind

I'm sure this is all political gamesmanship on the part of the government to get the Chinese to drop their demands for commercial privileges along the rail right-of-way and get a more favorable (2%) loan...
