i heard it was cows & sheep burping in NZ that
was upsetting the balance. apparently they can be
fed seaweed to cut down on noxious gas. gt93 ?
Yes, agriculture is a significant contributor to climate change. And yes research is being done on possible solutions. It seems to me that humans will need to consume fewer animal products. That will improve our health too.

Will we? Probably not.
How will eating less meat improve our health? I thought beef contained many nutrients and latest studies show meat is very good for our health. Lots of people going on the carnivore diet nowadays.
Where is our resident expert, Dui Dui? What's the deal Dui, you seem to be knowledgeable on health related topics.

Eating less cows & sheep will be better for the environment because Bojo has managed to sign trade deals that will lead to meat being sent from Australasia to England instead of Scotland and Wales to England

Economy minister says Germany will limit the use of natural gas for electricity production and instead burn more coal.

Why is it when some people tell a story they never tell the whole story. Somewhat like a little white lie being told

The reason is simple, Doodoo. Like you, they don't care.

Hope this helps,

You think that is the sum total of Australia's efforts? Shutting down 6 power stations? What a misleading and cynical post.

Just an interesting point of view about how true the world uses of coal is and climate change

In days of yore, most of the Lamb eaten in the UK was either Welsh or New Zealand Lamb and the Dairy products also came from Australasia, Beef strip loin used to come from Argentina, so the wheel has tuened and it starts again, no change and no difference `.

Last year, China approved the construction of another 106 gigawatts of coal-fired power capacity, the equivalent of two large coal power plants per week and its highest in seven years, new research has shown.

The country aims to bring its climate-warming carbon dioxide emissions to a peak by 2030, but it remains unclear what level it will reach.

Engineers are predicting that commercial perovskite cells will cost $0.1 per watt. For context, silicon cells are ten times more expensive, at around $1 per watt. With prices like that, solar power could become, by far, the most cost-effective energy ever!

World temperature records have been broken for a second day in a row, data suggests, as experts issued a warning that this year’s warmest days are still to come – and with them the warmest days ever recorded.

The average global air temperature was 17.18C (62.9F) on Tuesday, according to data collated by the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), surpassing the record 17.01C reached on Monday.

Until the start of this week, the hottest day on record was in 2016, during the last El Niño global weather event, when the global average temperature reached 16.92C.

On Tuesday, the World Meteorological Organization, the UN’s weather body, confirmed El Niño had returned. Experts predicted that, combined with the increased heat from anthropogenic global heating, it would lead to more record-breaking temperatures.

The climate sceptics will still argue it is cyclical, no need for scientists if you can chat to some old farmer geezer from Yorkshire.

In 2020 alone, China produced about 60 million tonnes of plastic waste, yet only 16 million tonnes of which was recycled, according to the China National Resources Recycling Association.

China accounted for 32 percent of global plastic materials production in 2021, making it the world's largest plastic producer by far.

China may have produced but we must remember that the majority is for export to other countries
14,230,00 Tons in 2019

2021 China exported $35.5 Billion of plastic material while #2 was Germany at
$11.4 Billion and #3 was USA at $7.8 Billion
One of the major reasons for China leading the way is Cost.

World’s top 10 ocean plastic contributors

Based on a study by Science Advances in 2021, the Philippines is the leading country on the list of top 10 ocean plastic contributors – generating an estimated 356,371 MT of plastic waste in our ocean. This is followed by India (126,513 MT) Malaysia (73,098 MT), China (70,707 MT), Indonesia (56,333 MT), Myanmar (40,000 MT), Brazil (37,799 MT), Vietnam (28,221 MT), Bangladesh (24,640 MT), and Thailand (22,806 MT)2. The primary contributors to ocean plastic pollution are concentrated in developing Asian nations, with the exception of Brazil.

In USA only 50,000 charging units available and they want 500,000 by 2030 Now vehicles can be charged at home or at work but what about the transport business and their ever moving vehicles

A long way to go with more charging stations and electricity to be available for 13 million trucks moving cargo while 2.9 million are tractor trailers

Induction charging pads (like the higher-end smartphones) installed just under the surface at traffic lights, bus stops, parking lots and wherever EV's stop for a while.

Roof-mounted solar panels on tractor trailers for trickle charge-on-the-go options.

I'm not saying these are total or even viable solutions but every little bit helps, no? More importantly, those championing renewables need to get their heads working on a viable, practical and sustainable transition time line instead of these premature and ultimately unverifiable claims of being carbon-neutral by the end of THIS decade.

My home state of Missouri, and I imagine other states as well, fund highway projects with money from state fuel (gasoline and diesel) taxes. State legislators are now scrambling to devise other means of collecting needed highway funding as electric vehicles no longer "fuel up". I suspect some interesting proposals will be made to include EV owners in financing future road works.

Australia has fuel tax that was for road building first a long time ago
most of that tax is not used on roads
governments decided it was good way to get revenue
