Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
As we have seen in the premier League all players are now sporting BLM logo's are on the back of there shirts and we now have players using the knee as a protest. It is my opinion BLM is a Politicle movement and therefore a. Politicle party. What do members think about Politics coming into sport.
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
What would you call the BLM movement UM ?
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.

Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Has there ever been a time when sport wasn't used for political ends?

Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
While we are languidly gazing across the ponds, was the game devastated after the AFL apologized for years of sitting on their hands while fans abused Adam Goodes verbally at every game?
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
The OP's premise for debate is totally flawed. BLM isn't a 'politicle' party or movement.
BLM has been politicized and hijacked by certain people, entities and groups but there's no political heart in the movement.

Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
and i bet his game rose to the occasion. . . while fans abused adam goodes . . .
nietzsche was right
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Does the OP also think that this is the first instance of politics coming into sport, or sport becoming politicised?
What was it the Romans used to say? Bread and circuses....
And don't forget Rocky Balboa's epic against Ivan Drago.....
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Why is it flawed Tam ? our premier league players did not have BLM emblazoned on there shirts or taking to the knee prior to George Floyd's death in America. If this didn't happen we wouldn't be having this now. If the high profile sportsmen and woman wanted to make a statement it would be better too "End Grooming of our kids" on there shirts. Im not real'y interested in what happened at the 1936 Berlin Olympics I prefer here and now.
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Pointless argument because BLM aint a 'Politicle' party? To be a party they'd need an organization and leadership with candidates fielded for elections.
BLM is a movement against racism. My mate Rio Ferdinand said so on BT Sport last night before the Watford game?
They also were all wearing NHS badges next to the BLM badges and doing a minutes silence for the covid dead. All are as valid as each other IMHO.
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
^ If we weren't "having it now" the UK would he having the discussion eventually. Maybe that it's happening while we are still alive is taking some people out of their comfort zone?
Why chose "End grooming of our kids" specifically? For years EPL and other major leagues have their players walk out with kids.
"There are various reasons why players walk in with children. These include promoting children rights campaigns, bringing the element of innocence to the game, fulfilling children dreams or making profit of it, and reminding players that children are looking up to them." *
Is this suddenly not working?

Your not getting it Tam I'm not talking about mascots I'm talking about a statement which high profile premier League players would be better making a statement that means more to the people of the UK. Then 1 that up to a few weeks ago didn't mean much to us in the UK. Now that would make a statement in the UK but we're not even allowed to ask about grooming gangs. Next we will see vote labour or vote Conservatives on shirts if the establishment had there way.
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
I totally agree that the ruckus in America has substantially less traction over here. However, is grooming of white English children by ethnically Asian but completely (and legally) British citizens a significantly greater issue than uneducated white British "couples" factory-farming families so they can suck up government benefits while not giving a toss about the welfare of their brood?vlad wrote: ↑June 21, 2020, 4:47 pmYour not getting it Tam I'm not talking about mascots I'm talking about a statement which high profile premier League players would be better making a statement that means more to the people of the UK. I just realized that all that won't quite fit on a regulation EPL players shirt.
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
Yes Its more important rooting out and stoping these raping our children. Wouldn't you ??
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
The initial question was, ‘Should politics be allowed in sport’? This is a question that I will not address at length, apart from stating that ever since the first Olympic Games at Olympia, like it or not, politics are part of sport.
One of your correspondents has stated that up to a few weeks ago Black Lives Matter did not have much to do with us in the UK. I beg to differ. The 1965 FA Cup Final was the first to feature a black player, Albert Johanesson, who played on the left-wing for Leeds. Throughout his days with the club, he was barracked by the opposing team and their supporters. He played for Leeds from 1961-1970 and somehow managed to keep his cool.
“When we walked out, all I could hear was a cacophony of Zulu-like noises coming from the terraces. It was dreadful, I could barely hear myself think for those screams. I wanted to run back down the tunnel.”
Football has a long history of racism. It was not too long ago when monkey chants and bananas were ‘normal’ behavior. Earlier this season, in the Premiership, fans were still being removed from grounds for racism. Ask Raheem Sterling about that. I cannot understand how the players are able to take it all.
A few days ago, we had the Football Lads Alliance (or something like that) out on the streets of London in violent opposition to Black Lives Matter. This is not something that has very much to do with all proper football fans. Racism in football has gone on for far too long. It is good to see that the Premiership is now taking a stand, or sometimes a knee. And if some of the hard-core fans can’t abide this, the game of football will be a better place without them.

Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
to me politics and sport should not mix , as i started follow the EPL again, all this blm rubbish, ridiculous ...,it should say every life matters ...it is not about the black people only , discrimination is everywhere , but it should not be vented in sports...
Re: Should Politics be allowed in Sport.
If they don't vent it in the EPL specifically, then whole hordes of semi-literate abominations like the aforementioned "Football Lads Alliance" will carry on blissfully bullying their way through life, exercising the last vestiges of white supremacy in a world where recent changes in national leadership has only encouraged their out if date hatred and bigotry.
