Was Edmond Hillary the First.

Was Sir Edmond Hillary the first man to climb Everest ?? The question asked as a documentary has just aired in it George Mallory attempted to scale it with his partner Irvine both never returned until 1999 when a group of climbers found Mallory's body 70 odd years since the attempt. Rumour has it that Mallory did indeed Scale it but fell on the descent. The most compelling evidence is a photograph he had in his pocket of his wife. He informed his team that it was his intention to place the photo on the Summit. When they found Mallory in 1999 both his shirt pockets were closed as he was fully preserved by the cold.but the photograph was missing. So the guess is Mallory and Irvine did reach the Summit as they were spotted a few hundred metres from the top and going strong. Id say they did infarct conquer it.

They paid a big price. I'd much prefer to be the first chap who came down alive. There's no doubt that mountaineers in those times were extraordinary athletes and very courageous.

They showed the Oxygen Tanks they strapped on there backs which were extremely heavy and cumbersome strange that almost of the ones who died were left where they are to this day. Because of the severe weather conditions most are fully kitted out even ones from the 2010 climbs.

Even now as then, without the Sherpas, they wouldn't have a chance.
