Leading Australian academic proposes English be renamed to prevent causing offence
Indigenous woman and educator Dr Hogarth proposed the theory while speaking at the Australian Association for the Teaching of English conference, the Courier-Mail reports.

DR Hogarth is Indigenous to where ???
please explain
Melitta Hogarth is a Kamilaroi woman and is the Assistant Dean (Indigenous) and Senior Research Fellow in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Prior to entering academia, Melitta taught for almost 20 years in all three sectors of the Queensland education system specifically in Secondary education.

Melitta’s interests are in education, equity and social justice. Her PhD titled “Addressing the rights of Indigenous peoples in education: A critical analysis of Indigenous education policy” was awarded both the QUT and Faculty of Education Outstanding Thesis Awards and was awarded the Ray Debus Award for Doctoral Research in Education.

Interesting article :^o .....doesnt say if Ms Hogarth is married or not .. looks rather like a rug muncher or more akin to an Olympic transgender shot putt event than preaching English.

I suspect DM's original response gave the idea far more intelligent consideration than it ever deserved to have (it is on a par with the usual sponsored study results that get spouted by many Universities)

Leading Australian academic? Leading in what, the race to get to the front counter of McDonalds [-X [-X

My only hope is, that, after I am gone, people such as these, who hibernate in the at World of Academia, away from reality, do turn the World in to an Academic swamp. This way they inherit/end up with, exactly what they created. Most likely not a swamp, but a cesspit. :-k [-(

Then they can spend the next 500 years, trying to find how to swim out of it, without help from those who actually contribute.

Hopefully I will be long gone and watching from above or from below :-k :-k which ever way I fall \:D/

It's great to have ideas, But there is a "But".

Let's just hope that places of higher learning and academia continue to be given the freedom to come up with a whole range of ideas (however whacky they might appear to be), and not just those which appeal to the conservative minded. [-o<

THe only ideas academia are likely to come up with these days are the ones the Oil/Tobacco/GM etc industries pay them to come up with

Doubt that ANY Industry even bothered listening, let alone paying her

Not sure about the longevity of the great Australian indigenous but the palefaces arses must be puckering on the following startling revelation.

The number of White people in the U.S. fell for the first time since 1790

Don't think the number of White people in U.S. is less then 1790, maybe the percentage?
