Re: Night Market Get Together
When i get to live in Udon, i will pop along to the get togethers. Hope there are not two camps, udonmap and Udonmap, one on one side, the other on the other side, it should be okay to post on either really. Both forums are good to read, hopefully one can post on either and be a multi-poster, sort of like a cross-dresser, only in print! Nice to see Fawn back, maybe a different although well known name, on udonmap perhaps!?
Re: Night Market Get Together
The NMGT doesn't have 2 sides!A couple of the people have some resentments about this site, but it is their personal conflict! Many of us post on both sites as friendships and interests cross any conflicting positions!
It does seem that most of the guys that exclusively post on Udonmap, very seldom attend NMGT's!why,I have no idea, but the 10+ plus regulars( a few times ,around 20 posters in attendance)have a good time ,plus the ladies all sit together enjoying their food and gossip =D> =D> =D>
Initially the get togethers were organized by involved members of this site to move around to different ''sponsor venues'',which would benefit both the site and the sponsors! But it seems the moving about after getting settled in at one spot, wasn't the preference of most posters attending and other variables that seem to favor the NM,such as the larger space, easy faster food selection, cheaper prices and consistent ''eye candy'',to mention a few, made the NM the permanent venue!
Anyway,it has been an enormous success for those looking for face to face relationships with many posters and has allowed personalities that had some posting conflicts to transcend those and have greater understanding and acceptance of each other!
IMO,one of the greatest aspects to the site being so successful ,other than some sound business practices, has been the developed friendships of many posters through these GT's =D> =D> =D>

Re: Night Market Get Together
Hi all,
My first visit to Udon will see me arrive 8th January and will be staying at irish Clock with TGF. I would like to go to the meeting in January to put some faces to names on the site. Would I be right to assume that the meet date is 9th Jan and the time about 7pm???
Also could someone please tell me exactly how to get to the meeting as this is my first time in Udon.
Thanks Terry

Re: Night Market Get Together
From the Clock, January evening, it is a pleasant stroll & really a choice of two routes...
Route 1.
Out of the Clock, turn right. When convenient cross over the road. At the top of the road turn left. (Ignore the ladies who will be gathered there ). Carry on past Mr. Tong & Nutty Park & the flower sellers will be running down the road to your left with bikes parked across this road on the right. Follow this road for a very short way & you will see a huge TV screen to your left. The 'beer garden' is exactly opposites, to your right.
Route 2.
Out of the Clock turn left. When convenient cross over the road. At the end of the road turn right & walk a few 100 metres. Turn into the hospital car park. Head past hospital building & exit car park. At next road to your right enter the edge of the Night Market. If you follow this road, it will end in a car park - take any entrance that you can to the right as you pass the parked cars & you will be in the 'beer garden'.
Route 2 is a little quiet & not so well lite, but both have bar stops on the way, if needed.

I can't talk for other nationalities but for the British , you would have to understand the class divide . Yes it does exist despite 20+ years of Socialism proclaiming all are equal .In England we have two separate types of social clubs, the Conservative and Labour clubs The latter often called 'Working mens clubs ". For what reason I can't imagine as it seems to presume that the members of the other group don't work . Which is obviously incorrect .Now despite there political titles many members of each vote for the party not represented in the club membership. But there idea of social interaction is none the less polarised to the extent that a member of a conservative club would feel very isolated if he were to visit a labourclub , as would a working man visiting a conservative one .An obvious example is the entertainment on offer . A working mans club typically has a rather bawdy comedian making jokes about the bosses or the mother-in-law, whilst the former is more likely to have a speaker on current affairs . So understanding that, most Brits prefer to stay in a social mix that reflects their own tastes. Now this could develope into a very prolonged debate worthy of its own topic heading but I just use it to illustratethe answer to Stans question .BKKSTAN wrote:The NMGT doesn't have 2 sides!A couple of the people have some resentments about this site, but it is their personal conflict! Many of us post on both sites as friendships and interests cross any conflicting positions!

It is untrue that there are 2 types of social clubs in england, there are far more for example bowling clubs, tennis clubs, liberal clubs, fishing clubs, british legion clubs ex service clubs oh nonsense, I cannot be bothered to go on.
Truebrit I think that your post stinks of snobbish inuendos, typical of your I am better than you posts that you normally post.
I can now see why you sit on you own at the night market :-" :-" :-"

Re: Night Market Get Together
True Brit, you have inspired posters on UT to create a two-page thread on your remarks. You have power.
As mentioned there, I would think that people who live in Hackney and Lambeth would have a different perspective on life, conditions and politics than people who live in Knightsbridge.
As a research student in London, I noticed there was a remarkable change once you crossed over the Blackfriar's Bridge and found yourself on the south side of the Thames.
Thus, it seemed to me there was a class divide that was fairly easy to identify in London. But, that was in 1995; therefore, the city might have changed and the folks in Hackney are more genteel and less rough than previously.

The last remark first": Too much smoking is affecting your eyesight. I am never on my own in the night market. My wife and/or my son are always around somewhere. It so happens that I much prefer their company than the alternative on offer .english.farang wrote:

The NM idea of sitting all the TG/TW together on a separate table is in itself , very reminiscent of the old Working Men's Clubs, where the ladies had a separate room .That's never been my style, never will be .
Now you, as an ex-army officer who worked his way to a commision through the ranks, as you told me, should know that there is a mess (SocialClub for our American readers) for the sergeants and OR's, whilst the commisioned officers have their own. You as a one time member of both will have experienced both .Or have you forgotten? :-"
I admire the other members of G7. They at least have the courage to post openly. Should I go on?
Re: Night Market Get Together
Thank you Tilo. I understand I have a new nickname of POF At least I am able to add some weight to the normal banter, even without posting .Tilokarat wrote:True Brit, you have inspired posters on UT to create a two-page thread on your remarks. You have power.
However , back to the discussion. It is often said that those complaining most about class, education and even money, normally are the ones that have the least of them all.

Re: Night Market Get Together
I think Trubrit could much more easily have made his point, and without stirring up any perceived class undertones, by simply saying that "like attracts like".
I find I tend to get on best with those with whom I share similar interests, have a similar outlook, share a similar standard of behaviour etc, which is why I tend not to mix with those whose behaviour I find inappropriate or unacceptable. -- And I would include in that - belligerent, over bearing, unnecessarily rude or arrogant people, as well as louts.

Diplomacy was never my style Arjay. Besides it livens the forum up, or it seems to over the road.arjay wrote:I think Trubrit could much more easily have made his point, and without stirring up any perceived class undertones, by simply saying that "like attracts like".

Re: Night Market Get Together
Awfully sorry, I'm off topic but I have the urge to point out that the British forces messing system comprises three messes not two. They are:trubrit wrote:Now you, as an ex-army officer who worked his way to a commision through the ranks, as you told me, should know that there is a mess (SocialClub for our American readers) for the sergeants and OR's, whilst the commisioned officers have their own. The Officers' Mess
The WO & Sergeants' Mess
The Junior Ranks' (RAF) or Other Ranks' Mess.
Carry on.
