Gor Goong Pao

Post by Udon Map » August 25, 2017, 3:14 pm

#Udon Map – EAT!

Fresh seafood crab and big shrimp at a brand new seafood restaurant called “Gor Goong Poa” located on Udon – Nong Khai Road next to Na Kha Buri Hotel. Clean, delicious and not expensive.

New! Shrimp pond

The owner, Khun Noi, has owned a local shrimp farm which was doing quite well before she had the idea to open a restaurant. In fact, driving north from Udon along the Nong Khai Road , there are a number of stands by the side of the road selling fresh, live shrimp. She and her family own 80% of them.

Recommended dishes: Fried crab in yellow curry, Stir fried spicy sea food, Stir fried squid and salt egg, and Grilled shrimp with delicious sauce.

Open everyday from 9 am – 8 pm.
Tel. 091-060-7539, 089-277-9510

My wife and I have now eaten here on two occasions, both times the food and presentation has been excellent, I love being able to select fresh live crabs and having them cooked to perfection, the service was extremely attentive along with very welcoming owners, I really can not recommendi high enough.

We had lunch there today the food is excellent, the owner is very customer oriented the staff know how to look after you and the prices are also good the only down side the menu is all in Thai which the owner assured me she is in the process of fixing.
Will definitely eat there more often.

We had another dinner here today, again the food and service was exceptional, we had the bbq prawns, curried crab, steamed crab, Somtam and egg fried rice, all were delicious.
The owners asked us to tell everyone on their behalf, "thank you for the very nice reviews, and look forward to welcoming anyone from UM", they can not reply directly as they are waiting on their User name and password from UM.

Just love this place as so close to the house, popped in for a very quick lunch today, food and service excellent as per our previous visits, the owner is a lovely lady, extremely friendly and helpful.
She also informed us that the Menu will also be in English very soon.

I'm not a Facebooker Pete, so I can't go there for directions. :(
The place, being new, doesn't figure on Google Maps yet, but it says it is by the Napoo Resort & that does, so is this the place.. ??

If so, quite a trip for me - which wouldn't put me off but it does look like I would have to face the dread of the over/under pass building to get to it.. :(

Looks like a road trip in my future, going should be smooth, must check a map for the return. Its the old "Can't get there from here" problem.

Bob, you are spot on, the restaurant is situated at Napoo Resort, get there and you are there.

The wife, kid & I went there tonight and I can only reiterate what has been said previously that this is a first-class place. Considering it’s just around the corner from us we will be visiting again very soon. Without mentioning any names, it beets any restaurant/hotels between Udon & Nong Khai.
We also got our UM 10% discount card.
It's worth a trip up the road to try out.

I know the other place you aren't mentioning and I agree it's awful, going to try this place soon because it sounds great, Pete and his missus have been there a few times now and never had a bad meal.

Yes, the other place was good about 17 years ago when it first opened but not now. Staying on highway 2 about 1 kilometre further up there is another place on the left not worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed with "Gor Goong Pao" Good seating and AC.
