Even without turkeys it seems some place should have something. Even duck, goose, large baked hens, etc.?

ThanksGiving............got to be Turkey. Xmas or Easter, yea, you can get by with a nice baked ham. But not TG. Without the turkey, just another day out, a buffet, nothing but a Sunday roast ...........on Thursday. :(

Can provide the duck, B-in-law kills 2 or 3 every day for the market. Want to do goose, but haven't got round to rearing any.

For those not American, Thanksgiving is a little difficult to understand. I understand it rivals Xmas Day in its importance to American families and Americans travel to spend Thanksgiving with their families. We don't have something other than Christmas Day like that in New Zealand. Boxing Day is also a public holiday here.

Because Christmas and New Year are in the summer downunder, together they are family events although New Years is perhaps just as likely to be spent with friends than families. Christmas is really the only family festival that we have.

When I was a child we never marked Halloween but we definitely do now. I wonder if in ten years we might have an equivalent to Thanksgiving. The word and idea is very pleasant.

I have heard previously that it is celebrated formally in a very small part of Australia at a similar time of year.
But not the mainland.
