a few months ago i discovered that i am paying for all these unwanted spam SMS. Without clicking on them, without ever having subscribed to any of those, it turned out these daily 10 baht a day wallpaper and games Spam SMS just without your consent take your money.
if you get spam sms, you might think that as long as you dont click, you dont pay. it might be different. 3 spam sms a day a 10 baht is almost thousand baht a month, without your consent but with the consent of your provider who gets a chunk of the loot.
you can check if you loose money by checking your balance, dont use the phone for a day, and check again.
in the case of DTAC prepaid, in my case, you can see all your details on the net. google 'dtac usage' and follow the instructions. "search usage details" gives yiu detailed information. check the "content service" (a nice word for oais spam sms) if you are paying or not.
the only way to stop these scam sms is a trip to dtac shop in Central. they are fully aware of this scam and with a big smile they will block it. in my case that means it stops for a week or two and it starts again.
paying for stuff you never subscribed for or clicked at, is pure thievery, and third parties cannot do this without the help of the provider, who are fully aware of these scams but accomodate thrse scammers bc the providers get a piece of your money.
a bloody rippoff, and every few weeks a trip to dtac, a waiste of time.
please check and if you are paying for this unwanted crap, please visit your provider. (lastly, no it doesnt work to 'unsubscribe' by sms)

If you have an Android device you could always try one of the Apps from the Play Store.

I use Anti SMS Spam & Private Box it Is free, but pretty basic. You can just get it to block, automatically, any SMS that is from any number that is not in your contact list.. :D

thanks for the reply. not sure but i guess these apps will simply delete spam before you see it but will not prevent spammers sending paid content sms and billing you for it without your consent and knowledge.

Are you saying, just dial this number anytime to stop the sms's, or after you get one etc?

I did that,to make sure that it works..dial the *137..a lady in Thai will say press 1..do that and hang up.

Dial again..*137 but this time press 2..hang up...you will recive a SMS in Thai..i think it said something like wait 20 min..for the *137 to kickin..And that's my friends is ALL you have to do.

i dont get it. whats the exact number? *137... ?? what are the dots stand for?

I believe that the *137 is the code to make it happen for True.
Other phone suppliers probably have different codes to achieve the same - or not, depending on the supplier...

I have 12call .I had the same problem. I went to a AIS buddy store and they did the same procedure you described above. So it works for true and 12call

That's it..like somone else said...Other network may have another prefix..check yourself.

I asked AIS to delete and stop them ages ago.

New promotion package saw them reappear again.

Rang again and a refund on my account has now been proxessed.

I am DTac and went to top up my internet/phone today at Tesco on the ring road near the Nong Khai road and was told that I do not receive any SMS that I would pay for.

On True *137 gets you to an automated number giving various options in Thai.
Press 9 while the lady is talking & the language switches to English.
You are offered a variety of options depending on which number you then press.
Option 4 removes you from all subscribed (charged) & SPAM SMS (their words :D )
You then get an SMS from your True saying if you were previously receiving any subscribed messages & that SPAM SMS will be stopped with 24 hours.

All done from the comfort of your phone... :D

I'm on AIS. The only SMS messages I have ever received which are sort of advertising are from AIS trying to sell me special packages of calling units. Never from anyone else. And I don't see the ones from AIS very frequently at all, -- I'd say on average maybe one or two/month.

I believe this to be correct as i'm on Dtac and i don't get charged for any sms nonsense ,

The sender ID number 4184500

This is the sms I received daily from AIS since I took up a new package 2 months ago.

It then shows up as a 155 baht charge on the monthly account. As VDO Mysic Movie download.

When challenged in depth they agree its them sending it and charging for it.

Last 2 months now fully refunded.

Few montha ago my Thai friend got billed for over 90 baht by True Move H for playing games on her phone. Of course she did not. A short trip to True Move at Central to clarify the situation. True claimed that someone using that phone had played games. My friend said that it was impossible, TRUE mentioned that maybe my friend had allowed someone else to use the phone, a relative, a young kid from the neighbourhood... etc. We asked to see a print- out of the times and dates my friend was supposed to have played games. There were several dozens connections in a matter of a single day.
On the spot they gave us a print and my friend categorically denied having ever played those games. The True Move lady said that she would report the matter to the Bkk office. 2-3 weeks later my friend got an SMS from True informing her that the Game Playing Charges had been droped.. No apology no excuse.. End of story

Heading into town tomorrow to pay my DTAC bill, will ask them about sms charges.
Just to make sure, you can never trust on source when dealing with a Thai business.
