well, depending how much time you have, yea, you can, unless something going on, they are all one day stops, unless just wanting some R&R.

Khao Yai--don't hike or camp anymore, park fee turn off for me.

Phanom Rung--nice restored ruins, decent size, unless been to angkor wat, then a tease.

Surin--i would by pass

Chiang Jiam-Pha Taem---have to plead ignorance

Mukdahan--just there, one dayer, too long, like nakhom phanon better

That Phanom--in between, if not for wat there, it wouldn't exist, i think

Nakhon Phanom---good for couple days R&R, but that's it

Wat Phu Tok--there's that hiking and walking up steps thing again, looks nice though

Udon--best 'non-beach' place in thailand, ok, biased

Khon Kaen--ok place, decent shopping/electronics/tech, decent food and places to stay around the lake. get there every so often.

Phimai---minature phanon rung, but nice small ruins

Khorat--no interest for myself, did a one dayer there.

depending on what you want, it's all relative, been to most a couple times, and one day was plenty, unless tired of driving and wanting to relax at river town. you will get watted out very fast, as i see that phanon on there, and other history places. good luck and enjoy

plan is 2 nights in 3 places to relax and a few 1 nighters

from what ive read nong khai has stuff all things to do, so why people recommend it? it doesnt even look good in photos.

surin 1 night after phanom rung and check out night market.

anyway we are going to just move on if we dont like a place. we dont have to stick to the plan.

MuayThaiguy "surin 1 night after phanom rung and check out night market."

If you are planing to stay a night in Surin might I suggest you make a reservation at the Surin Majestic (800bt) as they usually fill up. You won't have a problem getting a room at one of the other hotels but IMO SM is best.

Depends on ones definition of fun -- but if it includes horizontal recreation, it's hard to avoid in Thailand no matter how small the village.

I visited Khao Yai, phanom rung, surin, Khong Chiam, Pha taem and phimai.

Was fun!!!!!
