Trip To Loei... early Jan 07.

Post by beer monkey » February 11, 2007, 11:04 pm

On the road to Loei.....

Image

Image

All the roads to loei from Udon/Nong Bua-Lamphu were fine.....
only a few hours travelling with the usual Thai Girl toilet stops .

A nice lake and gardens in Town........

and around town....

I stopped at The Loei Palace, to book a room for the night, but they quoted me 3000 Baht a night !! nice place but did'nt notice any other guests and the carpark was almost empty so i said was that for a week, and we (me and staff on reception) all laughed .... so i got back in the car and drove up the road a little and came across The Sun palace, so got a place in there, rooms were 300 up, but i opted for the VIP room for 1000baht, but they only charged me 650 baht,(wanted the buisness i presume) a separate TV room, big bedroom with TV also, decent size bathroom with separate shower and bath, these were like little bungalows only 2 available, but were in the carpark oppersite the main building, would stay again for a stop over.

Tv/lounge room....

Image

there was a bungalow resort next to the airport, and several other hotels in town that i noticed.
The place seemed very quite only saw 3 other farang whilst walking around, these pics were taken in mid afternoon and there were'nt many Thais around either.

There is a Tesco with KFC and the usual, but was not finnished yet (Jan 07),but i am sure it would be opened now.
The Town is clean and tidy, with a mixture of old and newer building,i did'nt notice any farang bars/resturants around, some maybe there but i did'nt see any.
The thing i noticed was that people on Moto-bikes and people in cars/trucks were all driving slowly in and around Loei town even at night, and plenty people waved at me as i drove around, now i have'nt seen that in Udon Town !!.
and the Air seemed fresher too.

even the chickens were smart !! lol

Image

will post the drive back to Udon the scenic route pics soon.

There is a bit of a falang restaurant - a steak house - on the round-about. Steaks were fair the last time I was there.

yes did see that place, but thought it just a Thai steak house, incidenty go up the side of it and there is what looked like a fairly new Hotel/guest house (Orchid something i think) looked an ok place from the outside.
I opted for Korean BBQ 89 baht that night, with a Massive choice of food, not far from there.

Nice shots BM, and the hotel looks good for the price too.

Incidentally did you know Loei has one disco? I met one of the coyote dancers on a night out in Udon and she asked me to meet up with her there, never got around to it though.

I Wonder if this place has plenty of girls in tight fitting shirts like the disco in Ubon! :boogle: LOL

We stayed at that hotel last October time, when visiting Phu Ruea National Park, and ate at the Steak House. There was also a farang orientated coffee shop in a nearby hotel.

We quite liked Loie, much less commercialised than Udon, but obviously without such facilities as International Hospitals and big stores etc. :D

Headed back to Udon Northwards towards Chiang Khan, again roads are great, these were taken about 20 minutes out of town heading in to the mountain area, note still plenty of mist around even at 9.30am...

always pop up to Tha-bo a few times, the Mrs used to work in one of the resturants by the river years back. But they've all gone now.

Good photos!
Do you have the telephone # for The Sun Palace?
Are there any websites that deal specifically with Loei?

The Sun Palace Hotel,address is 191/5 Charonrut Rd , phone 042-815717 042-815545. 042 812654

300 Baht per night - 1000 Baht for ViP,these were the prices displayed but probably will differ on the day you arrive i payed 650 for vip. had 2 rooms 2 TV's Minibar AC. nice and quite, but if you get the ViP room in the carpark beware of cars parking/leaving after 12 midnight, but did't disturb me.

4-5 floors i think in main building, carpark, friendly staff, resturant and massage available
near to The Loei palace ($pang-pangฃ) and near to Tescos.KFC.and next door to the lake/gardens.

We spent a weekend in Loei, the missus filled the pick-up with bags of Tamarind. She reckons the Tamarind from Loei is the best quality in Thailand.
Deflated at the duel price for entrance to the National Park, 400baht for farangs.
Outstanding views driving up the mountain road, lots of resorts, and for the gardeners there are people selling bedding plants on the roadside.
Thanks BM for the photo's and trip report.
Udon Thani, best seen through your car's rear view mirror.

Lotus Tesco

Post by arjay » June 20, 2007, 11:21 pm

Does anyone know what happened about the new Tesco Lotus in Loie. I gather it was ready to open, but didn't??
