Rocket Festival Roi Et 2014 ???

Does anyone know much about the rocket festival in Roi Et for 2014. Any suggestions about how to enjoy it more? Maybe more importantly, any suggestions about how to avoid problems?

Can I buy small rockets to build and launch myself at home?

Suggestions of good places to stay overnight?

To echo Statto's' sentiments, but a little more kindly...

These are serious pieces of hand made explosive power, not some health & safety checked item available in stores in the West.

In all seriousness you need to ensure that you are viewing far enough away that if anything goes wrong you are not among the casualties.
It is a fun event to go & see, but only from a VERY safe distance...

how to avoid having your head blown clean off my a miscreant rocket >?happened a few years back to a thai spectator who was instantly decapitated by an out of control rocket

ah yes, unsupervised mass parties of drunken louts playing with explosives!!! Yay!!! And whoever loses the rocket fly-off gets tossed into the mud pit!!

If you drive out on the Udon-Nongbualamphu Hwy, exactly 18km from city center, turn left at the 4-way intersection (school and Wee Shop on the left hand side), go about 800m down the road.....on the right hand side is a rocket fabricating shop. They've been in business for several years, specialize in baking/shaping the bamboo poles that are used for the rockets. Around rocket time each year, they'll be packing them as well. I've never asked if they sell to individuals.

Parrot, who else would they sell to??? The Rocket flying clubs?? Money talks and I'm sure if some Farang walked in with a wad of cash to buy 10 of the big-uns, they would gladly sell them..

on the danger side, If I recall rightly, two guys who were driving their car into the rocket festival up in Nong Khai last year got an errantly flying rocket through the windshield. I think one guy died...

Danger aside, with the Rocket flying season coming up, will there be any locally??? If so, you could always get 500 meters away to watch and avoid the drunken party...

The Phen Rocket Festival is scheduled for 11-17 May at Wat Si Charoen Phon. If you've never seen a rocket festival......look at the photo in the link below......be aware, some of the rockets are massive. And, as you can see in the photo, all the latest in safety technology is included in the launching pad. Enjoy!

I have watched the Bung Fai at 'Ban That' many times with a few beers and friends, very entertaining, if you can be bothered talk to the guys doing the rockets and see and learn some of the methods they try for better performance, it can be good fun, rather than just slinging the locals of as being stupid, some expats should remove there dresses and man up....

Whoa lads, coxo is writing metaphorically. Don't take this literally. I don't like the idea of members reading udonmap in their birthday suits (unless the members are Thai ladies). I'd like to watch the Roi Et festival sometime (with my clothes on).
