Thank you Astana, looks a very nice place, but a little out of my price range (4708 Bht Per Night)
Re: reasonably priced hotel near Swampy???
If you book via their website they offer a 'special price' of 2,900 Baht.
Unfortunately, other offerings of hotels near the airport are either similar or more expensive like the Novotel right next to the airport (8,000 plus).
No harm in giving them a call and asking for their promotions options or alternatively try one of their partner hotels like Louis' Tavern hotel with Special Rates For Internet Users Valid from Now - 31 October 2008
Single Twin Extra Bed
Run of The House Single 1,600.- twin 1,600.- extra bed 700.-
http://www.miracle-hometel-suvarnabhumi ... promo.html
The above room rates includes American Breakfast, inclusive of service charge and tax.

Google Sananwan Palace, Bangpli. It is about 20 min from Swampy and costs under B500.

I've stayed here a few times. It's good value for money for an over nighter.

Re: reasonably priced hotel near Swampy???
i'll 3rd sananwan..............inexpensive, decent food, cheap beer, nice pool.
though there ain't a damn thing in the area.............one modern shopping center, and one large klong local / tourist market, which i wouldn't eat at, since i took the klong tour, which i also wouldn't recommend, unless you enjoy the smell of sewage. but point is, i saw people swimming in, washing dishes, even food, from the klong water, no thanks.
but decent place to stay for the night or 2 or more, but just as convenience to airport or R&R, with no intention of leaving. website is accurate, with exception of room pic, there might be one room that looks like that, the rest are tired, but clean and safe, needing a coat of something, think old ruysuk, but the rest is fine, especially if just overnighting, but hopeful get time to hang out at pool for the afternoon.

Re: reasonably priced hotel near Swampy???
on the rare occasions that i book ahead, i use sawadee or latestays, usually best prices and safe, dependable service. directrooms and hoteltravel are also safe and in same ballpark, just depending on what contract they have with hotel, how many rooms prebooked, some come with brekkie, which isn't always an advantage, depending. not sure if you are familiar with those sites, link for 2 below, though have not stayed or recommend anything near swampy except for sawanwan, my only time in the area.

I've never stayed in this hotel myself, but it's quite near Suvarnabhumi:

Otherwise the Novotel is close to the airport, but expensive....

That was very useful. I will leave my luggage at the airport, get picked up, rest up, and hope to get back without having to pay a ransom; they say on the website that they only provide one-way transprt. Thanks.

I have stayed at the Queens Garden. It is a very basic, older hotel with no elevator, but has A/C and Thai style shower. Staff is very friendly and you can get free pickup at Swampy, but must pay for return trip. Did not eat there, but do not think that will be on your list of things to do with late arrival.

Here is another place close to Swampy: http://bangpli.com/sananwan.htm
I've stayed there a few times and it is good for an over nighter. 350-600 baht for A/C rooms, 200 baht for fan rooms.
Meter taxi to hotel and back to airport around 200-250 baht per trip or the hotel can pick you up for a little more.

I totally forgot that I once stayed at this small, nice, and clean hotel to catch an early morning flight out. A good value at B900.

All of the above will cost you under B900/night.
Hope that helps.

Usually stay at the Grand Pinnacle. They will pick you up at Swampy and bring you back.
1,000 baht per night.
Very comfortable rooms. Good, reasonably priced food, wifi and snacks/drinks in the room.

Re: reasonably priced hotel near Swampy???
Ralph,
In April we stopped at a place called the Ivory for 1200 baht which included breakfast, although we werent able to participate in this as we had a very early morning flight and had to leave at 3.30am.
Its a small modern hotel, opened in 2008,and has 72 comfortable apartment style rooms.About 10 minutes drive to Suvarnabhumi.
It has its own restaurant but within 5 minutes walk there is a small shopping complex that has a McDonalds,Starbucks etc......nothing much else in the vicinity though.
Ideal if you just want to stay one night. They have a taxi service to/from the airport for about 100 baht, although from the airport to the hotel its just as easy to take a metered taxi.

No Cali, 300-400 baht to me is cheap, I was thinking of around the 1000 mark.
Its only for one night, have a 0930 flight.
Thank you one and all for the informative info, it has given me some good alternatives.

Get yourself a sleeping tablet and go down to the Swamp on the bus, did it last time 500 ish baht and arrived at 5.10 am.
Get some Durian biscuits and open the packet as you are about to leave the bus, or just leave an open packet on the bus!
